Job Description

As a Material Planner, you will be responsible for generating the materials requirements and ensure their timely availability to support production needs. You will need to work closely with the Purchasing team to ensure on-time delivery of materials, and also to monitor and ensure optimise inventory levels. To prevent and minimise excesses and shortages situations, you are required work closely with the Planners to establish a robust production plan. Your responsibility also includes supporting of material baseline changes, requiring you to work closely with the Manufacturing, Purchasing and Engineering teams. Ensuring mateials availabiity for smooth transition of new products to production is also the responsibility of a Material Planner. You are also part of the Key Material Group (KMG) to assist in strategizing material supply requirements.

Responsibilities and Tasks


Establish Material Forecast


·  Analyse and review weekly production forecast generated by the Planners for priorities and pull-in requirements.


·  Create the required material forecasts, and make the necessary adjustments where required to align with the Production, Engineering and Purchasing requirements.


·  Review the plans with the Purchasing team, amend where needed, before the material forecasts are sent to the Suppliers.


·  Review material consumption rates for robust forecasting


·  Maintain the required material database to facilitate material forecasting; associations, allocations, consumption and scrap rates, etc.


·  Support the Finance team with required material-related information to facilitate financial forecast and closing activities.


Review and monitor material deliveries and inventory level


·  Review material inventory level to ensure smooth production


·  Work closely with the Purchasing team to ensure timely deliveries of required materials


·  Reconcile expiring and excess material levels to production plans to ensure these are consumed timely, with zero to minimum scrapping.


·  Work with Assembly counterparts and Purchasing to facilitate material transfers between sites


Support material baseline changes


·  Be part of the Key Material Group (KMG) to assist in strategizing material supply requirements.


·  Support baseline material changes as required from Engineering and KMG.


·  Build forecasts to facilitate smooth implementation of changes


·  Liaise with various teams for smooth transition of new products to production.
