Job Description

As a Test Solutions SSD Equipment Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will be responsible for the development, improvement and qualification of new and existing SSD equipment, software and processes.

You will work together with other functional groups locally and globally to design, develop and qualify equipment, processes and software, establish roadmaps, strategies and new equipment capabilities that enable SSD business objectives.

Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Perform continuous gap analysis between existing SSD Test capabilities and product roadmaps to identify development opportunities
  • Research industry capabilities/trends and regularly conduct equipment benchmarking
  • Establish and maintain key technical roadmaps in conjunction with other engineering groups
  • Lead worldwide projects from definition through first of kind deployment into production
  • Coordinate with key partners including BU, PE, Site and Finance teams to establish project business value using approved methodology and techniques
  • Provide Automated Test Equipment and process development for new technology, manufacturing applications, and improvements that will deploy to all Micron SSD Test locations worldwide
  • Conduct controlled evaluations and design experiments needed to understand the product, process, material, and equipment limitations
  • Identify and resolve origin of deviation, isolate cause and provide solutions
  • Establish new equipment specifications, design requirements, and qualification processes
  • Act as SSD Test liaisons throughout the company communicating physical product requirements during design and improvement cycles
  • Communicate and document product attributes, timelines, and test requirements for new product offerings as well as changes to existing products that will impact hardware and process
  • Present technical information to a wide variety of audiences, including formal presentations (when necessary) to area, department, site, or larger industry groups
  • Provide feedback from department Product Teams on product validation to external groups, and broker joint solutions between global technical teams.
  • Ensure effective and efficient risk management strategy while developing new capabilities ahead of needs through continuous improvement projects and reducing cost through continuous cost reduction effort.
  • Lead designs with safety, ergonomic and Micron device quality considerations utilizing Design and Process FMEA
  • Actively drive improvement in worldwide SSD Test processes in order minimize cost and increase quality
  • Support intra-departmental (and multi-site) teams to enable new Test capabilities which support product roadmap.
  • Standardize methods and processes across areas, departments, and sites as appropriate
  • Drive product/process change in other departments (where applicable) to reduce test tooling/process cost and/or complexity
  • Work with equipment suppliers to develop new capabilities. Co-develop with supplier where necessary


Successful candidates for this position will have:

  • Dedication to decision-making grounded in strong data analysis
  • A strong desire to constantly learn, improve and innovate Test principles
  • Consistent track record of technical development and continuous improvement
  • Willingness to accommodate global meeting schedule and occasional travel
  • Proven understanding in design, implementation, materials selection, thermodynamics, CAD, controlled experiments, statistical understanding, ergonomic and safety controls
  • Ability to present data, design reviews, and information to production and senior leadership
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks concurrently and see them to conclusion based on a given timeline
  • Proven supplier management track record

Preferred experience:

  • 5+ years experience in system related testing (Modules or SSDs)
  • Project management with multi-functional teams
  • Proficiency in statistics, data analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Experience with Solid Edge (CAD), machining, welding, mechanics, electrical, thermal


  • Position requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Material or Production Engineering

Workplace Travel Required?

Travel may include domestic/international when needed to support business needs.
