As a principal engineer within the SSD design & customer support engineering team, you will be the primary technical contact for Micron's client NVMe product line in mass production.

 

The "CSE" (Customer Support Engineering) team supports a variety of groups throughout the SSD product development lifecycle, including design engineering, product engineering, firmware architecture + design, FW test, validation, global quality, and the customer account teams. Although this team has a breadth of roles and responsibilities, the primary areas of focus include FW development, debug support for the validation and RMA teams, overall product management after internal qualification, and customer support. Although the team supports all Micron branded SSDs, spanning multiple storage protocols (i.e. SATA, SAS, PCIe, NVMe), this particular role is primarily focused on NVMe products in the client/consumer segment. With the CSE teams in Shanghai and Singapore providing firmware development support, your role will be the principal systems engineer that will coordinate debug efforts on the most critical product issues. This will include formulating DOE's to identify root cause and appropriate corrective actions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to execute the DOE and implement any fixes, as well as supporting the quality & customer account teams with writing + delivering FA reports to our key customers.

 

In order to provide adequate leadership and guidance to the supporting teams, you must have a deep understanding of the storage industry, including knowledge on how client systems operate, PCIe/NVMe protocol, SSD firmware, hardware (including power management sub-system), NAND media, and the associated debug tools. Excellent problem solving and social skills are required to develop and execute clear plans to resolve challenging engineering problems, and to effectively communicate the root cause, corrective actions, and prevention mechanisms to both Micron and external customers’ executive management teams. Domestic and some international travel will be required.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in computer/electrical engineering or computer science
  • At least 5 years of storage industry experience with OEM/Client customers and associated ODM factories
  • At least 2 years of embedded system firmware design and systems or application engineering experience, preferred
  • Management / leadership experience, preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding and application of PCIe & NVMe interface protocols
  • Proficient in Python/Perl/Shell scripting and with using bus analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other HW debugging tools (e.g. logic analyzer)
  • Experience with signal integrity analysis and usage of UART, JTAG, I2C, etc.
  • Understanding and application of DRAM, NOR, and NAND flash component operation
  • Proficiency in C/C++ software programming
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively by utilizing strong customer service, problem-solving, and communication skills
