At the heart of manufacturing in Industry 4.0, data drives our decision making and propel our technology forward. However, running experiments and collecting data is highly intensive and very costly. Thus it behoofs us to develop a model of the process, a digital twin, on which the experiments can be simulated and the outcome predicted without requiring lengthy experiments, expensive tests. Instead such a digital twin will allow us to gain even more insights into the process and develop more advanced improvements.
Work with process engineers to identify key process knobs and study the effect of these changes to the film property. Develop model capable of predicting the result from process knobs. Research on theoretical basis and incorporate into developed model. Through this project, the student will employ statistical techniques and analytics such as regression / tree modeling and Design of Experiment (DOE).


Full characterization of process knobs and resultant film properties. Develop a workable model that can simulate the process outcomes.
