Senior Manager - SSD Design & Customer Support

As a manager of the SSD Design & Customer Support Engineering team you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers to support a variety of groups throughout the SSD product development lifecycle, including design engineering, product engineering, firmware architecture + design, FW test, validation, global quality, and the customer account teams. Although this team has a breadth of roles and responsibilities, the primary areas of focus include FW development, debug support for the validation and RMA teams, overall product management after internal qualification, and customer support. These responsibilities apply to numerous products across Micron’s SSD portfolio and span multiple storage protocols (i.e. SATA, PCIe, NVMe). In order to provide adequate mentorship and leadership to this team, you have a deep understanding of the storage industry, including knowledge on how client and enterprise systems operate, SSD firmware, hardware, NAND media and the associated debug tools, as well as experience with software/firmware development and general coding best practices. You will be expected to utilize strong social and leadership skills to develop and maintain an effective and efficient team environment, where you and the team ultimately represent Micron as the SSD subject matter expert to both internal and external customers. Excellent problem solving and social skills are required to develop and execute clear plans to resolve challenging engineering problems, and to effectively communicate the root cause, corrective actions, and prevention mechanisms to both Micron and external customers’ executive management teams. Travel is required in order to provide on-site support for tier 1 OEM customer accounts.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelors Degree in computer/electrical engineering or computer science
  • Minimum of 5 years of storage industry experience with OEM/Enterprise customers
  • At least 2 years of management / leadership experience
  • At least 2 years of embedded system firmware design or application engineering experience, preferred
  • Hardware debugging skills preferred
  • System debugging skills preferred
  • Understanding and application of SATA, SAS, PCIe, and NVMe interface protocols
  • Proficiency in Python/Perl/Shell scripting and with using bus analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other HW debugging tools
  • Shown understanding and application of DRAM, NOR, NAND flash component operation
  • Proficiency in C/C++ software programming
  • Excellent customer relationship management skills, demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate by utilizing strong customer service, problem-solving, and customer issue resolution skills
  • Self-driven, and self-starter
