System Performance Engineer Emerging Memory Solutions

The System Performance Engineer position is a key opportunity to work on system performance for Cloud and Enterprise applications to showcase our Micron’s cutting edge 3DXP-based products and emerging memory solutions. If you are passionate about working on next generation emerging memory solutions & being a part of a cutting edge technology team - come join us on the emerging memory solutions group at Micron. The ideal person is well versed in performance analysis, including a deep understanding of the bottlenecks in the hardware/software stack. This position will require a root causing performance limits and working with engineering teams to showcase our products to demonstrate the highest impact on performance.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Performance Characterization and value demonstration

  • As part of the Emerging Memory Solutions Systems performance team – work on performance characterization with state-of-the-art Storage and memory products.
  • Define Performance measurement methodology to showcase system performance, Peak performance & competitive advantage
  • Partner with key customers and industry leaders on characterization and tuning performance of their stacks, target applications & representative workloads
  • Analyze and debug performance issues in customer environments
  • Publish collateral to support findings and evangelize leading edge product offers
  • Produce/Manage marketing and customer-facing collateral including white papers, product documentation, performance and power reports, websites, videos, demos etc.
  • Hands-on projects to demonstrate key technologies performance
  • Keep up-to-date on competitive solutions, products, and services
  • Engage with marketing teams and customers to ensure successful showcase of product features and value with major opportunities and deployments

Internal team interface

  • Collaborate with internal development and research teams to develop expertise on product and performance analysis for cutting edge memory & storage products
  • Work with the engineering & other internal teams during the implementation and testing phase to design.
  • Develop performance benchmarking and analysis tools and automate performance test suites.
  • Analyze performance bottlenecks, root cause issues, file defects, follow up on resolution.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Master degree preferred
  • 5+ years of Application engineering experience
  • Must have worked in an established performance analysis role preferably partnering with external customers/partners
  • Familiar with operation and performance analysis & debug of SSDs, PCIe & NVMe protocols, including knowledge of relevant debug tools protocol analyzers, scopes, logic analyzers
  • Experience Installing and configuring Windows and Linux OS + updating associated drivers
  • Experience with distributed systems (filesystems, databases, storage, map-reduce frameworks, etc.).
  • Experience with systems performance analysis using techniques like CPU profiling, tracing by using standard Linux tools.
  • Experience in DOS and LINUX scripting
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred skills:

  • Familiarity with System and Application performance, tuning parameters and system tradeoff in areas of Databases, Big data applications and virtualization
  • Knowledge of ESXi, Hyper-V, KVM is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities spanning multiple software and hardware components & layers (such as switches, storage systems, kernels).
  • Ability to infer key conclusions from performance data & collate, articulate performance findings.
  • Creative, independent, self-motivated and eager to learn new technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of NAND & Memory fundamentals
  • Python software development - Skilled in Python + 1 other language such as C, C++, PERL, JAVA, etc.
  • Experience using Git or other version control systems
  • Application Engineering or QA experience
  • Experience with Dual Port Storage Technology
  • Comfortable working in a multi-functional team
