Micron Technology is looking for an experienced Linux System administrator who can utilize his/her knowledge and experience to configure, deploy, optimize and support Linux computing infrastructure in semiconductor development environments. The successful candidate will work closely with our current HPC Platforms and Solutions group and CAD and Engineering Sites teams to ensure smooth operations of design teams worldwide. This candidate will also be responsible for helping drive new and innovative technologies into our environment that span all facets of semiconductor design and development process (testing, automated deployments, benchmark testing, optimization etc.).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain engineering desktops and virtual machines at multiple, geographically disperse, locations
  • Perform benchmark testing and come up with the most efficient configurations for various loads
  • Optimize BIOS settings and develop different configurations for various types and combinations of design-specific applications
  • Perform OS tuning and optimization for various EDA tools
  • Perform day-to-day management and troubleshooting of remote desktop connections
  • Build user accounts, set up home directories and environment
  • Develop onboarding process and perform new users’ orientation
  • Perform troubleshooting of various user issues, including batch, storage and virtualization systems
  • Employ ideas and concepts in a team environment that defines success in terms of the team’s overall success
  • Provide training to other members of the team
  • Proactively monitor all parts of engineering workstations in place and provide fast resolution to all the discovered problems
  • Work closely with batch computing specialists to understand a global license and hardware sharing solution and perform maintenance and troubleshooting of the client aspects of the systems in place
  • Establish feedback loops with key customers by building positive relationships
  • Plan and implement strategies for minimizing service outages, and for reducing the impact of such outages on business operations (i.e., availability, contingency, and disaster planning)
  • Communicate and collaborate with peer groups (enterprise architects, security team, network team, storage, CAD, etc.) to ensure our solutions meet Microns internal standards

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience supporting semiconductor engineering environment
  • Experience with RHEL and CentOS
  • Experience with compute batch systems (LSF, RTDA)
  • Scripting (shell scripts, python etc.)
  • Understanding license management systems (FlexLM, RLM)
  • Understanding of networking and storage systems
  • Familiarity with batch systems
  • Understanding of EDA applications internals is helpful
  • Strong strategic thinking, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and deliver results under pressure
  • Able to drive strategic directions within the department.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate with various teams

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field is required and /or equivalent experience with certifications may also be considered
  • 10+ years of supporting EDA or semiconductor design experience is encouraged
  • Strong scripting and OS internals knowledge
