Intern- Workload Analytics Engineer

Understanding key workloads in the data center space is a Micron imperative, in order to improve current products in the deep-memory and storage hierarchy (DRAM, HBM, GDDR, 3DXP, NVMe), develop new solutions for the ecosystem, study how different workloads perform on the memory/storage products both in isolation and in concert, and bring about a total value proposition to customers based on efficiently utilizing several Micron products. To this end, a successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the analysis of how compute-intensive, data-intensive, database, virtualization and Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads perform on the Micron product portfolio, develop performance models and benchmarks, create reference system architectures, and develop software solutions for the entire ecosystem.


Job Responsibilities:

The candidate will work on a subset of tasks specified below.

  • Analysis and characterization of data center workloads in several areas such as compute-intensive, HPC, big data, AI, databases. and virtualization
  • Performance benchmarking of DRAM, LPDRAM, HBM2e, GDDR, 3DXP, NVMe, SSD using both microbenchmarks and the aforementioned data center applications
  • Create workload traces from data center applications and replay traces against the deep-memory/storage product portfolio
  • Create emulation platforms to test and evaluate new and emerging technologies such as CXL to study CXL connected DRAM and other products
  • Create reference system architecture and compute node configurations based on a combination of Micron products for a given workload to understand TCO
  • Study reliability properties and SBEs and DBEs on the various memory modules


Education Requirements/ Preferences:

  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or related field
  • Strong computer systems foundations
  • Familiarity with synthetic memory bandwidth testing applications
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of server system memory (DRAM) and processors
  • Experience with performance analysis
  • Familiarity with leading scripting, programming languages and technologies (Python, C, C++)
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Excellent written and presentation skills to document the findings



This position can be located in either San Jose, CA or Boise, ID
