As a Strategic Category Analyst at Micron Technology, you will be responsible for providing the Category Management Teams the analytics and data necessary to drive their strategic objectives. You will work with partners across Micron’s global sites to ensure Micron meets current profitability objectives and achieves future cost-down aspirations.


As a liaison and domain expert for assigned categories with various sourcing and engineering teams, site leaders and other partners – you will understand and monitor key internal metrics, category market conditions/trends, supply/demand challenges and other pertinent category dynamics. Your analytical leadership will help to guide the selection, development and management of Strategic Suppliers to meet category cost and performance goals, with an emphasis placed on Micron’s ability to achieve cost targets for relevant technology and product roadmaps.


Leading multi-functional initiatives across category teams and team members will be a key element of success in this role – relying on your collection and analysis of spend, cost and supply base. You will develop and implement actionable insights that enable the category team to achieve business objectives.


What are the Primary Responsibilities?

Analytics & Data Management

  • Develop and deliver advanced analytics to support Micron's Procurement Team
  • Responsible for Cost Savings Reporting, Spend Analytics and overall Category Scorecards
  • Extract information from various sources, often taking care of multiple stand-alone systems and/or sources
  • Craft analytical models for routine and ad-hoc analysis to deliver high impact business analytics
  • Ensure data integrity and accessibility by partnering with IT, BI, Fin, Eng, Mfg, and other support teams

Cost Strategies & Systems

  • Seek out opportunities to provide cost analysis to the teams; support cost data and reporting environment
  • Establish cost transparency, analyze the cost drivers and calculate the target cost
  • Support our team's needs for cost benchmarking, should-cost and design for manufacturability
  • Ensure the data used for the program metrics are reliable, relevant and actionable for members who rely on them

Market Intelligence & Competitive Benchmarking

  • Support category team’s Market Intelligence needs with industry research, supply network, risk and benchmarking
  • Analyze and understand impact to category strategy; deliver recommendations to support strategic direction
  • Support Supplier Financial data collection, interpretation and review

Experiences & Education

  • 2 to 5 years of professional data management and analysis experience
  • Bachelors’ degree required (Graduate degree preferred); Business, Engineering, or Science major (preferred)
  • Analytics and Problem-Solving enthusiasm and aptitude is more important than degree subject
  • Procurement, Category Management, Supply Chain background a plus
  • Passionate about data and information management, and have experiences with reporting tools: Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Tableau, SharePoint, etc.
  • Financial and/or other analytics software, SQL and VBA aptitude a plus
