Manager, SSD Quality & Reliability Assurance

As the SSD Quality and Reliability Assurance Manager at Micron Technology, Inc., you will manage a technical staff of engineers focused on the product quality and reliability of Micron Solid State Drives (SSDs).  Working with Product Engineering, Business teams and Micron’s customer facing teams, you will develop qualification plans for new SSD programs, monitor qualification progress and provide the Global Quality recommendation for product Qualification and Ship Release decisions. 

 

Post qualification you will work with Manufacturing, Product Engineering and Failure Analysis teams to monitor the outgoing quality and reliability to ensure product continues to meet established specifications and customer expectations. 

 

As a key NVM QRA leader, you will oversee area workflow and priorities, determine resource needs and ensure overall area performance to plan is achieved. You will manage the overall performance and development of team members for which you will be expected to provide regular performance feedback, establish goals and development plans, and provide opportunities to expand skills and career growth. 

 

As the Subject Matter Expert for SSD quality and reliability, you will interact regularly with teams from other sites and departments to maintain alignment, improve area efficiencies and foster working relationships. You will also provide guidance and direction for the disposition of non-conforming system product.  You will establish and monitor functional area performance metrics to identify and implement continual improvement opportunities.  You will communicate with customers and customer facing internal teams on the qualification process, qualification results and product quality and reliability performance.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks

Provide cross-functional leadership to help Micron SSD product achieve “Best in Class” quality and Reliability performance

  • Foster Customer Quality and Reliability Relationships at all levels of the Organization
  • Understand customer quality and reliability requirements and how to align Micron process to appropriately support those requirements.
  • Provide functional area expertise to customers and internal stakeholders
  • Represent SQRA in Core Team meetings and communicate decisions to key stakeholders
  • Contribute to Micron’s Product Lifecycle Management process with respect to SSD programs

 

Manage New Product Qualification Activities

  • Facilitate and manage qualification group activities.
  • Develop and communicate the Qualification Plan for all new SSD programs
  • Analyze Reliability data for product validation within specific and customer requirements and report to stakeholders as higher-level metrics.
  • Comprehend failures and failure rate within the scope of the qualification
  • Manage risk assessments at all decision points within qualification cycle
  • Track and provide progress updates for internal and external stakeholders

 

Monitor Outgoing Product Quality Metrics and SSD Field Quality and Reliability Performance

  • Determine quality monitors needed for SSD programs in high volume manufacturing
  • Interface with internal teams to ensure resources are appropriately planned and budgeted
  • Monitor and analyze data, identify trends, and identify opportunities to drive quality and reliability improvements
  • Perform or provide guidance into product risk assessments
  • Support non-conforming product identification, containment and disposition for system  products
  • Escalate quality and reliability issues with significant risk to customer base
  • Prevent future recurrence through detection and prevention improvements
  • Provide technical guidance on system quality and reliability issues
  • Communicate product quality and reliability performance to internal stakeholders

 

Provide Organizational Leadership to Build Functional Strategies, Processes and Policy

  • Provide global and cross-functional guidance for system product quality and reliability issues
  • Establish functional area objectives aligned to department and corporate objectives
  • Evaluate and manage resource needs, establish requirements, and propose budget needs
  • Support corporate business initiatives, communicate and provide direction

 

Manage Team Member Performance

  • Coach, mentor and develop direct reports and provide career development opportunities
  • Establish job responsibilities and performance and development goals for direct reports
  • Align individual performance goals to function, department and corporate objectives
  • Provide performance feedback on an on-going basis and conduct performance appraisals for direct reports
  • Collect, review, and provide verbal and written performance feedback to continuously develop team members
  • Monitor and manage functional area to achieve performance targets
  • Manage and ensure conflict resolution
  • Support and provide team member recognition

 

Build an Effective Team

  • Remove barriers and drive accountability
  • Optimize functional area performance and structure
  • Assess talent and develop talent management strategies to execute objectives
  • Evaluate and support learning opportunities in your functional area and develop professional opportunities for direct reports

  • Promote collaboration across functional areas and customer groups

 

Requirements

  • Must have B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 3 years of product experience working in semiconductor industry, including 3 years of managing cross function project teams and/or team members.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into actionable measures
  • In depth experience of software and firmware development methodologies
  • Strong leadership with strategic and organizational agility preferred.
  • A self-starter with strong experience driving cross-organizational objectives and projects with demonstrated ability to well in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong business acumen, technical knowledge and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Passion for excellence with strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to present data, recommendations and advice to senior leaders and executives.
  • Key strengths include effective leadership, strategic thinking, business acumen, command skills, building effective teams, decisions quality, conflict management, teamwork, drive for results, discipline, attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to quickly shift gears and take on new tasks that require learning new technologies and strategies.
  • Position requires global travel
