The Finance Director, Malaysia Country Controller is responsible for all Operations Finance and Accounting related matters regarding Micron’s subsidiaries and operations in Malaysia. He/she provides effective Finance support as well as financial oversight and control to the leaders of the manufacturing sites in Malaysia and their extended teams.

This role reports to the Senior Finance Director, Worldwide Backend Controller in Singapore.

Key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Provide leadership and disciplinary oversight to Operations Finance and Accounting managers and team members in Malaysia
  • Lead the accounting activities for the legal entities in Malaysia and assume overall responsibility for the entities’ accounts and financial statements
  • Implement and maintain a system of internal controls and processes that ensure the proper administration of the legal entities in Malaysia, satisfy local statutory and Micron consolidated accounting requirements, and identify and resolve entity-related financial and accounting matters
  • Work with local management and corporate functional leads to ensure compliance both to Micron policies and procedures and to local statutory or other local or international regulatory and legal requirements
  • Support the Operations leaders in the manufacturing sites in Malaysia and their teams with financial analysis, product costing, strategic initiatives and other requirements. Partner with them in identifying, assessing and presenting strategic initiatives
  • Drive business decision-making within the sites, emphasizing and maximizing shareholder value generation, voicing opinions and taking informed risks.
  • Work with site leadership teams to optimize capital allocation for maximum return-on-investment (ROI) within the global Backend organization: enhance and promote ROI analysis practices & procedures, training, and ownership to conduct a thorough ROI analysis on each project and make recommendations.
  • Engage with the local Operations teams to manage cost and drive for a high level of site-accountability, including ownership for site score cards
  • Design and drive cost reduction activities at the sites with the objective to achieve Best-in-Class cost.
  • Integrate and streamline processes and systems for product costing, as well as financial and business planning and reporting, at the local sites to provide insightful and timely information for cost reduction initiatives, business benchmarking, performance management and operations decision-making to enable the local sites to achieve their objectives
  • Lead proactively in developing and implementing new financial processes for costing, planning and reporting to meet changing business needs
  • Exercise effective and independent financial oversight and control over the manufacturing sites in Malaysia, so as to safeguard and maximize shareholder value
  • Collaborate with other local, regional and global teams inside and outside the Finance organization to develop highly effective working relationships
  • Work with governmental agencies like MIDA and Invest Penang to maximize grants and incentives, and ensure compliance with all commitments
  • Lead the Finance-side activities in setting up new manufacturing sites in Malaysia, as required
    Develop and manage team member performance, including planning, training, mentoring, rewarding, promoting teamwork, and developing leadership across sites/central teams to help team members maximize their potential and meet or exceed expectations



  • Bachelor and/or Master Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • Additional professional qualifications like CPA, CFA, Lean Six-Sigma preferred
  • Deep and broad product-costing experience and knowledge of related processes and systems (including ERP-systems like SAP)
  • At least 15 years of work experience in Accounting, Finance, Financial Controlling or related fields in the manufacturing industry (electronics manufacturing, semiconductors or other high-tech industries preferred)
  • At least 10 years of leadership experience, including the leadership of management personnel
