Role Description

As a Strategic Category Analyst at Micron Technology, you will be responsible for providing the Category Management Teams the analytics, data and information necessary to drive their strategic objectives.  You will work with stakeholders across Micron’s global sites, working collaboratively to ensure Micron meets current profitability objectives and achieves future cost-down aspirations.


As a liaison and subject matter expert for assigned categories with various sourcing and engineering teams, site leaders and other stakeholders – you will help to understand and monitor key internal metrics, category market conditions/trends, supply/demand challenges and other pertinent category dynamics.  Your analytical leadership will help to guide the selection, development and management of Strategic Suppliers to meet category cost and performance goals, with an emphasis placed on Micron’s ability to achieve cost targets for relevant technology and product roadmaps.


Leading cross-functional initiatives across category teams and stakeholders will be a key element of success in this role – relying on your collection and analysis of spend, cost and supply base.  You will be responsible for developing and implementing actionable insights that enable the category team to achieve business objectives.


What are the Primary Responsibilities?


Analytics & Data Management

  • Develop and deliver advanced analytics to support Micron's Procurement Category Management Teams
  • Responsible for Cost Savings Reporting, Spend Analytics and overall Category Scorecards
  • Extract information from various sources, often dealing with multiple stand-alone systems and/or sources
  • Create analytical models for routine and ad-hoc analysis to deliver high impact business analytics
  • Ensure data integrity and accessibility by partnering with IT, Business Intelligence, Finance, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other support teams


Cost Strategies & Systems

  • Seek out opportunities to provide cost analysis to the teams; support cost data and reporting environment
  • Establish cost transparency, analyze the cost drivers and calculate the target cost
  • Support category team's needs for cost benchmarking, should-cost and design for manufacturability
  • Ensure the data used for the program metrics are reliable, relevant and actionable for stakeholders


Market Intelligence & Competitive Benchmarking

  • Support category team’s Market Intelligence needs with industry research, supply network, risk and benchmarking
  • Analyze and understand impact to category strategy; deliver recommendations to support strategic direction
  • Support Supplier Financial data collection, interpretation and review

Experiences & Education

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of professional data management and analysis experience
  • Bachelors’ degree required (Graduate degree preferred); Business, Engineering, or Science major (preferred)
  • Analytics and Problem-Solving enthusiasm and aptitude is more important than degree subject
  • Procurement, Category Management, Supply Chain background a plus
  • Strong aptitude with data and information management, and reporting tools: Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Tableau, SharePoint, etc.
  • Financial and/or other analytics software, SQL and VBA aptitude a plus
