Led by only one of four Senior Fellows at Micron, the Non-Volatile Products Innovation Team is chartered with envisioning, creating, developing and deploying innovative solutions to the most difficult problems faced by non-volatile memory systems today and in the future. Using a relatively small, very select group of technical contributors with expertise that ranges all the way from Si to system, the focus is on cross functional solutions utilizing vertical integration.


As a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff – SSD System Architect, you have extensive experience in SSD design and architecture for the client, data center and enterprise markets. You also have significant depth of expertise in SSD architecture and design utilizing NAND Flash, DRAM, System ASIC to optimize SSD cost, performance, power and thermal management with a record for innovative solutions. In addition, functional skills demonstrating breadth of technical knowledge in non-volatile memory architecture and functionality, system ASIC architecture and functionality, system firmware architecture and implementation is expedient. This is a unique role for a very creative and highly skilled SSD designer/architect.


Responsibilities include, but not limited to:


  • You innovate new solutions to complex multi-disciplinary problems by collaborating with other team members with skill sets ranging from Si to system.
  • You will develop, evaluate, and optimize new SSD architectures that improve cost, performance, power, and reliability of client, data center, and enterprise product portfolios compared to today’s state of the art.
  • You define cost, performance, power metrics, and quantify proposed solutions utilizing critical analysis skills to establish pros and cons leading to a value proposition determination.
  • You exercise leadership skills by demonstrating the ability to drive complex projects from idea conception through evaluation and implementation.
  • Work closely with teams focused on execution to deploy developed projects with high quality and minimized time to market.
  • Educate and mentor other technical contributors within the organization to raise their level of technical expertise.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • You have in-depth understanding of SSD architecture and design, performance optimization and power management techniques.
  • Experience in storage protocols (SATA, PCIe, NVMe), NAND interfaces (ONFI, Toggle Mode) and larger storage systems.
  • You are able to assess new or expanded capabilities to be implemented and quantify impact to SSD cost, performance, power, and complexity.
  • You demonstrate deep understanding of the principles of non-volatile memory and system ASIC devices.
  • Your leadership skills strive to inspire, encourage, and drive peer contributors with diverse skill sets towards a strategic direction.
  • You are self-motivated and dedicated with significant analytical skills.
  • Bachelors of Science (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science and 10-15 years of HDD, non-volatile memory system and/or SSD design and development experience.


Preferred Skills:


  • Technical expertise in multiple disciplines of SSD architecture and design including NAND Flash architecture, DRAM architecture, System ASIC architecture, SSD performance optimization, SSD power and thermal management.
  • Consistent record of creative solutions taken from conception through implementation as indicated by patent portfolio and/or examples of competitive advantage gained over previous solutions.
  • You articulate vision for new concepts through excellent documentation and presentation skills.
  • Successful partnerships with internal and external authorities, advancing product development outcomes and setting the direction for future system products.
