As the Safety Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will be primarily focused on the prevention of accidents, incidents, and events that harm people, property, or the environment. 


You will need to know and evaluate work procedures, equipment, work places, products and systems, operations and activities using qualitative and quantitative analysis to identify hazards. Hazards evaluation is performed in order to identify what event could occur and the likelihood of occurrence, severity of results, risk (a combination of probability and severity) and cost. With the objective to reduce risk, you will work in a team with managers, supervisors, employees, engineers and technicians to identify what controls are appropriate, their cost and effectiveness. You will also make recommendations to management, engineering, or designers.  This may include establishing administrative controls (policies, procedures, training, etc.) and engineering controls (safety features and systems, fail-safe features, barriers, and other forms of protection).  This includes the management and implementation of the controls selected.


Other responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Developing, implementing and evaluating programs and procedures to ensure personnel and facility health and safety.
  • Participating in monitoring and controlling the company's safety standards in accordance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and Micron Policy.
  • Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of existing and proposed changes in federal, state and local health and safety regulations and their potential effect to the company.
  • Generating technical reports to document findings including recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Analyzing data and advising appropriate recommendations to prevent new or recurring accidents. Using this data, anticipating issues that may impact the company and developing solutions to prevent negative impact. 
  • Developing, suggesting and conducting employee health and safety training.
  • Evaluating and approving material and equipment requisition, new and modified processes and non-routine work.
  • May act as a lead, or technical expert on small and medium to projects.
  • Conducting accident and incident investigations and identify controls to prevent their reoccurrence.
  • Conducting risk analysis using recognized techniques including HAZOP, FMEA, PHA, etc.
  • Participating in the on-call safety pager rotation and responding to ERT events as needed.
  • Leading and participating in ISO 45001 and 14001 audits.
  • Perform ergonomic assessments of workstations and tasks.

Successful candidates for this position will have:

  • Preferred two years or more experience as a Safety Engineer and/or Industrial Hygienist at a manufacturing site. (Semiconductor industry preferred)
  • Familiarity with  safety regulations and standards as they pertain to U.S. semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Effective communication and group facilitator skills.
  • The ability to work with a diverse group of scientist and engineers and lead to a viable solution.
  • Knowledge or experience with chemical, tool material safety, and safe engineering solutions.


B.S. degree or higher in Science Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or other related engineering discipline.
