As a Facilities Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for providing technical support, and expertise on operational and maintenance programs for the electrical systems at the Manassas, VA site.  You will also assist the design and construction team providing critical operational and maintenance input and support for construction projects as needed.  Critical metrics include eliminating events that cause production interruptions.

 Technical Requirements:

  • Experience with high, medium and low voltages including 115kV main feeds, 45 MVA transformers stepping down to 13.2kV, and 480V and 208V substation distribution systems.
  • Experience with switchgear, AFD’s, DVR’s, UPS systems, emergency power systems, and power monitoring.
  • Experience with SKM or equivalent software to provide Arc Flash evaluation, Power distribution system protection coordination, Short Circuit studies and Load Studies, update Panel Schedules, assign and shift loads.

 Responsibilities and tasks:


  • Working in a team effort with customers, process engineers, facility engineers, operations personnel and construction disciplines to provide detailed designs and specifications for new capital projects.
  • Implementing safety into all designs in accordance with company safety guidelines.
  • Responsible for assuring electrical designs meet all applicable codes and regulations. 
  • Responsible for meeting design completion schedules with cost-effective and accurate drawings.
  • Reviewing and approving electrical designs including approval of circuit assignments by evaluating system loads and specifying critical components.
  • Providing cost estimates and analysis of proposed projects.


  • Providing support for start-up of new equipment, and ensuring all equipment will properly interface to other mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Providing troubleshooting expertise to the Operations and Maintenance team.
  • Maintaining, modifying and approving Master Design and Construction specifications related to the electrical systems.
  • Providing code review and analysis utilizing, but not limited to: International Building Codes, International Fire Codes, NEC, NFPA, and Semi standards.
  • Communicating regularly with site engineering, operation and maintenance teams on project status and system performance.
  • Assessing and insuring effective preventive and predictive maintenance programs, procedures and checklists are used across the site.
  • Reviewing electrical interruptions and providing recommendations to minimize the impact of critical electrical events.
  • Driving electrical system reliability using SPC, conformance, and FMEA methodologies.


  • Maintaining capacity and load data for assigned systems and areas.
  • Responsible for maintaining various administrative and engineering data bases in support of job tracking, engineering data, capital equipment facilitation, and critical system loads and capacities. 
  • Performing research and development on emerging facilities technologies to support cutting edge semiconductor processes.
  • Participating in infrastructure planning in support of the overall company strategy.
  • Identifying and deploying cost reduction efforts while optimizing and reducing energy usage for electrical systems throughout the network.
  • Analyzing and benchmarking equipment performance for the site compared to other Micron facilities.
  • Identifying and developing training programs that support site efforts.
  • Assist in the forecasting of site energy budgets.

 Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering

 Successful candidates for this position will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience directly related to high, medium and low voltage systems (required).
  • Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing and facility systems (preferred).
  • A strong knowledge of design practices and inter-related disciplines (preferred).
  • A customer service approach and excellent communication skills (preferred).
  • Fluent computer skills including spreadsheet, database, and CAD packages (preferred).
  • A high level of self-motivation with the ability to work under minimal supervision (preferred).
  • The ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently while prioritizing and scheduling workload (preferred).
  • Knowledge of statistical controls (preferred).

Knowledge of fire protection systems (optional)
