As an IT Database Administrator at Micron you work with management and data owners to develop database strategies to support the company’s needs.  You will plan, coordinate, and implement databases, including structures, technologies, security models, and documentation. 

The DBA ensures databases can meet recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives to ensure that Micron’s data is protected from data loss.  You will consult with peers, developers, and customers to define requirements, evaluate and recommend solutions.  You should have a good understanding of database administration techniques, the ability to provide administration to multiple database platforms and an understanding of data modeling concepts.

This position will be in Hyderabad, India, working in a fast-paced, agile and iterative environment, affording the stability of a global, established and competitive technology company.




Responsibilities and Tasks:

You will regularly work with Micron’s Business Units to ensure solutions meet or exceed business requirements. You will be expected to suggest, promote, and leverage published standards to minimize environment complexity and ensure regulatory as well as license compliance. You will have the opportunity to travel to other Micron sites as well as technology conferences and trainings.

As part of your responsibilities, you will be asked to:

  • Troubleshoot, recover, tune the database, install and upgrade, backup/restore, resolve database errors and failures, audit activities, and apply resource utilization controls.
  • Work directly with users of data to resolve data conflicts, inappropriate data usage, and enforce integrity standards.  
  • Formulate and monitor policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. 
  • Maintain new and legacy production systems.
  • Provide guidance on security models.
  • Maintain Replication and HA environment.
  • Apply working knowledge of Windows, MSSQL and DBMS tools and procedures
  • Gain domain knowledge of Micron’s business through work on various projects in a variety of areas.


    Other areas of knowledge that will be helpful: reliability engineering concepts, monitoring, scripting (powershell/python/perl), automation of processes, and infrastructure as code.

    Qualifications / Experience

  • Work independently based on guidance provided by managers.

  • Strong skills in troubleshooting and problem solving.

  • Perform research and testing to understand feature usage and best practices
  • MS SQL - Years of experience - 8+ years &  Version - Microsoft SQL server 2016 and 2017
  • HA Technology - experience with design, implement and trouble shooting skills

                   2] Transactional replication -- Tuning Replication architecture in high transaction volume databases

  • Performance and Tuning:

                   1] Query tuning ( Query store)

                   2] Index tuning

                   3] Hardware issue resolution ( CPU and memory contention)

                   4] Troubleshooting using extended events, sqldiag, pssdiag, perfmon, Query Store

  • Automation initiatives -- PowerShell or Python scripting preferred
  • Other Eng experiences :-

                   1] Advise development teams on database design

                   2] Assist developers in refactoring SQL code for better performance

                   3] Plan, coordinate and document project efforts



  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, other technical disciplines or equivalent work experience. Microsoft SQL server certification prefered.
