Communication Specialist for Hiroshima Site



Job Description

As site communication specialist, you will follow the communication strategies in support of your site leader’s objectives using GCM (Global Communication and Marketing) best practices and in partnership with messaging from the global manufacturing organization and country communication manager. You will enhance the message framework for the programs you support, ensuring consistency, quality and sustainability of the messages through ongoing communication channels.


In this role, you will drive strategic communication planning and tactical delivery of a diverse and complex nature, and get involved in in both the long-term planning and day-to-day execution. This role also includes localizing content and executing against effective site-level integrated communication plans, by developing compelling messages, incorporating feedback mechanisms and continually improving communication techniques, tools and processes. You will leverage GCM shared resources, including design, brand, graphics, video, and channel-oriented experts to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of strategic and deliverables communication plans for your site’s objectives.

The job function is dedicated to site communication role primarily supporting the Micron site in Hiroshima.


This position is located in Hiroshima, Japan.


Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Identify events, milestones, and site-specific topics that meet criteria for coverage through the internal communication channels (e.g., MicronNow, digital signage program, employee engagement campaign)
  • Develop talking points, messaging documents, presentations and various communications
  • Deliver monthly and weekly site updates; drive consistent and timely messaging in site
  • Manage all team members meeting messaging, content and materials
  • Evaluate and develop aligned communication strategies, plans, and messaging for team members as well as external events to enhance employee engagement and grow Micron’s brand in Japan  if needed
  • Serve as a project manager to manage various projects simultaneously and independently
  • Storytelling skills – have the ability to write about complex topics in an interesting way


Desired Skills and Experience

  • Work experience in a complex manufacturing environment or high tech industry; accustomed to B2B communication practices
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, influential, and teamwork qualities with a good commercial and operational understanding
  • Excellent verbal and written English and Japanese, with strong presentation skills
  • Ability to bridge cultural gaps when crafting messages, communicate information accurately and in culturally resonant ways, using interpretive skills
  • Ability to understand significant differences in context and knowledge base among various audiences in the organization, and skill in crafting messages accordingly
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills and the ability to manage and implement high level projects
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to make informed decisions and effective partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Ability to manage time and responsibilities effectively and drive programs to successful completion
  • Ability to work flexibly and under pressure, and combine strategic and administrative tasks within the role
  • Ability to work effectively in a team with a broad range of people with various backgrounds or cultures, deal with ambiguity, and remain productive during changes
  • Open minded, positive attitude and highly skilled in persuading and influencing others through ambiguous and dynamic business requirements
  • Demonstrate proficiency (upon arrival) with standard Microsoft Office applications



  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in any of the following: journalism, marketing, public relations, corporate communication or equivalent career experience
  • High level of skills in writing for a variety of vehicles, including traditional and evolving media (print, web, presentations, and video etc.)
  • High level of comfort in using communication tools such as MS SharePoint, Outlook, PowerPoint, feedback mechanisms, etc.
  • Experience working in a global high tech enterprise is a plus
  • Proficient in English and Japanese, both written and spoken

Required: at least 5 years’ experience in any of the following:

  • Journalism, marketing communications or corporate communication field
