Job Summary and Description:

The Application Engineer role can be broadly defined as being responsible for the tool selection, functionality, and performance of fab support equipment (Pumps/Chillers/Abatement). This includes all the hardware and software in the toolset, as well as the interface to any other systems that the tool must connect to for its proper operation. The Application Engineer is expected to request and manage application reviews from the tool suppliers. Document and provide visibility to the team and leadership of the tool selection decision analysis process. Will partner with HVM/MCT on defining the tool of record (TOR) for each vendor model process (VMP).

 

Safety & Quality:

Completes all required safety training and conducts all work in accordance with safety policies and regulations. Follows-up on safety and quality related issues immediately and works towards resolution with stakeholders. Performs and facilitates audits and submits good catches on safety issues. Proactively reduces incidents of personal injuries, safety hazards or environmental releases. Operates and maintains tools according to documentation and guidelines to ensure safety and quality expectations are met. Ensures proper tool documentation/reaction mechanisms exist for shift teams and submits updates to content when needed. Maintains a constant improvement program for defect reduction / yield improvement. Reviews and documents XLD issues to ensure root cause, follow-up documentation, and communication across TD & HVMs Reviews and identifies hardware related failures and creates and executes plans to fix root-cause.

 

Communication & Collaboration:

Partners with suppliers to resolve tool problems, defect issues, and maximize tool availability Improves communication and collaboration with vendors and area, department, and network partners. Collaborates with supervisor and areas leaders to create personal performance and development goals. Communicates proactively with MDE shift and Shift Ops leaders on the daily priorities and issues. Attends and participates in DAM, CIP, TPM Core Team, Tool Install and other meetings. Maintains strong vendor relationships to ensure Microns best interests are met. Partners with Process Engineers and shift Engineers/Technicians to gather input for area improvement. Communicates changes made to equipment and follow business rules for change control. Partners with HVMs in data collection, gap analysis, and improvement implementation as part of Benchmarking activities. Proactively communicates issues that could cause yield loss, excursions, defects, tool restrictions, or output loss. Ensures pass down is updated and accurately reflects the work instructions to shift each day.

 

Technical/Data Analysis:

Analyzes data to make critical decisions and drive cost reduction activities. Provides troubleshooting support for complex problems and address root causes. Serves as a key area resource for technical support and/or providing required technical resources to support TD requirements. Identifies and develops a strategy for each workstation that will streamline tool selection and partners with HVM sites to identify gaps and opportunities for workstation efficiencies. Effectively plans for required capacity and product mix by ensuring equipment is capable of running variance as projected. Provides effective and timely guidance to resolve equipment issues and is highly engaged in key problem resolution Drives a culture of TPM including TPM metrics, WS health reports, CIP items, MTAGs, MOP documents and restoration guides.

 

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead sustainability efforts to reduce emissions while also driving lower utility consumption
  • Manage H2H/Evaluation data collection and documentation
  • Assist and document start-up issues identified during project testing
  • Identify opportunities to optimize tool selection business process

 

Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ experience in Project Management and/or Fab Process experience, plus safety HAZOP or FMEA analysis
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; good verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to work well in a team environment
  • Proven ability in multi-tasking complex projects and enjoy working in a fast pace environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to drive complex projects to completion
  • Strong knowledge of Fab Support Operations
  • CVD, DIFI or Dry Etch process knowledge and experience
  • A B.S. or M.S. in chemical engineering, material science, or physics plus 2+ years of engineering experience.
