Micron is looking to fill an executive level position responsible for the company’s NAND device technology roadmap. As the VP of NAND Cell Development at Micron you will lead a global team of engineers focused on developing breakthrough 3D NAND technology and lowest cost-per-GB memory. You will be responsible for defining the industry leading cell technology roadmap and the execution plan to hit business targets. Your team will be accountable to delivering multiple generations of 3D NAND products from pathfinding development to product qualification. The NAND Cell team is globally distributed and tasked with architecting and communicating the device structure and requirements. Your responsibilities will include array and cell characterization, design feature definitions, trim optimization, and assessment of NAND cell reliability. You will be required to have significant interaction and coordination with peer groups working on device technology, process technology, fab operations, and product marketing. Direct Reports: Approximately 70 people located in Boise, ID, USA; Kamata, Japan; Vimercate Italy; and Singapore. These teams are responsible for performance of all NAND generations and are supported by a common pool of cell engineers, device engineers, reliability engineers, and other technical staff.

Critical success factors and responsibilities

  • Develop the world’s best NAND cell by defining a competitive technology roadmap to deliver performance and reliability requirements of the product roadmap.
  • Achieve world’s best NAND cell by effective technology decision-making in NAND cell process and array operation.
  • Lead the worldwide cell technology team by properly assigning projects and allocating resources.
  • Drive collaboration with high volume manufacturing fab, integration, process, probe, quality assurance, design, and product teams.
  • Lead NAND reliability methods and processes within the technology development department; Including electrical test definition and populating the reliability scorecard.
  • Work effectively with other department leaders to drive program strategy and initiatives.
  • Deliver executive level updates on technology status.
  • Mentor, develop, and motivate leaders and individual contributors.
  • Maintain efficient and effective allocation of resources to ensure optimal performance of the team.
  • Maintain area procedures and training required to ensure legal compliance and conformance to management system.
  • Define the vision for the team and then rally them around it. Assess the team and bring in critical talent as required.
  • Set up business process so the NAND Cell organization is operating at peak capability and hitting program objectives.
  • Drive collaboration across Micron to integrate resources for efficient & effective global execution.

Professional qualifications

Ideal Experience

  • 15+ years of experience in a variety of semiconductor technology roles including device physics, device design, material science, process development, process integration, production ramp.
  • Extensive experience in 3D NAND and/or planar NAND. Broad experience in both floating gate and charge trap flash is helpful.
  • Experience setting technical roadmaps and leading process integration activities for leading-edge NAND generations
  • Led large, geographically dispersed technical teams of at least 50 people
  • Record of delivering technical milestones on-time and on-budget.

  • Fundamental technology understanding, Process and Equipment expertise, Integration and Operations understanding, expertise in a device and process areas
  • Deep understanding of NAND cell device physics and cell characterization methodologies.
  • Deep understanding on NAND array operation, algorithm features, and array trim optimizations.
  • Deep understanding on NAND Cell Reliability mechanisms (cycling, retention, disturb, cross-temperature) and test/assessment methodologies.
  • Benchmarking, Understanding of performance trends.
  • Track record of accelerating technology, unit process development, improved time-to-market by changing processes and challenging teams
  • Multi-functional capability to work closely with fab operations, Process Integration, Product engineers, Quality Assurance, and System and Design engineers.
  • Deep understanding of Process capability, C-spec, Structural metrics, Cost reduction
  • Ability to communicate to broad teams including technologists, engineers, and operations.
  • Consistent record of effective performance management, succession planning, training, and leadership development.
  • Exceptional Technical Skills – Seen as the authority by peers and subordinates. A Technical mind which can see the big picture yet revel in diving into the technical details. Possess a broad base of knowledge across the entire technology development spectrum and can use that experience to set goals, integrate across disciplines, and solve technical challenges.
  • Strong Commercial Acumen – Commercially savvy and understands that technology is an enabler of business outcomes. Comfortable having business discussions with Micron Business Unite leaders and key customers. Enjoys presenting to a variety of audiences and confident in communicating the commercial benefits of technology decisions.

Education

  • MS and / or PhD in Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Chemical, or Materials Science Engineering
