As part of Micron’s Technology Development (TD) Organization, you will work in industry-leading, state of the art semiconductor facility for next generation memory technology development. As a Thin Film Process Development Engineer, you will join an existing team of engineers and contribute to the development, characterization and transfer of process technology for nanometer based, next generation 3D NAND products. You will be responsible for engaging with internal teams including process development, process integration, equipment development, pilot manufacturing as well as external equipment and chemical suppliers to drive process and tool solutions in areas of CVD/PECVD, ALD/PEALD and PVD. Additionally, you will collaborate with teams of outstanding technologists in generating patents and intellectual property (IP).


Responsibilities and qualifications include, but not limited to:

  • Develop, optimize and characterize thin film processes to meet the requirements of state-of-the-art 3D NAND technology
  • Understand thin film processes and tool variables affecting the physical, chemical and electrical properties of deposited films
  • Fundamental plasma processing and their impact on film properties, statistical analysis, and SPC/DOE
  • Thin films fundamentals and roles in all processing steps of forming memory devices, peripheral devices and their IC circuit
  • Various thin film electrical evaluation methods and techniques, along with experience of Fab metrology tool such as optical/electrical methods
  • Address problems related to defect, yield and reliability issues
  • Work directly with material and equipment suppliers to ensure alignment with Micron’s internal EHSS requirements to build a safe working environment and proactive safety culture
  • Transfer processes to HVM facilities, and ensure accurate documentation of requirements for equipment and facilities, metrology, quality control, and procedures
  • Translate product requirements into cost-efficient processes and innovative solutions
  • Work with a wide variety of people in different areas of R&D process, integration, and pilot line production to effectively accomplish tasks in a timely manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills and maintain positive relationships with colleagues
  • Plan and execute effective well-designed experiments and write clear concise reports detailing the results
  • The ability to give and take constructive criticism from other team members and be able to leverage input to drive projects forward
  • You need to be ambitious, dependable, willing, focused and dedicated to collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment to solve problems both as part of a team and individually including working extended hours if needed
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to learn new skills as needed



  • PhD/MS in Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar field
