Intern - Real-Time Defect Analysis

As a Realtime Defect Analysis (RDA) Engineering Intern at Micron, you will learn about the exciting field of inline defect analysis, using state of the art solutions to monitor and improve next generation memory solutions. The goal of this project is to use the available inline signature to not only detect process issues, but to use them to predict future process performance and accelerate the cycles of learning for Micron's next generation DRAM devices. We need engineers who are excited about detecting problems and making changes for the better.


You will be given a project to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Your research tasks are designed to optimize and improve predictability of RDA's operations. Through this project we will provide the opportunity for you to collaborate with our team and engineers across process development, data science, and software development. At the end of the intern period, you will have a deep understanding of the products, device operation, and problem-solving strategies commonly used in today’s semiconductor defect analysis departments using ground breaking strategies and next generation equipment.

  • Reviewing and analyzing experimental process flows looking for defect anomalies and quarantining process tools that are out of control
  • Possess a continuous improvement process (CIP) mindset where you are always looking for ways to improve the operations of the area
  • Recognize, identify, and raise awareness of process issues to appropriate teams with the motivation of "who needs to know these results?"
  • Work within a global team to achieve success on large-scale projects and collaborate with engineers to improve defect detection inline when possible
  • Seek out opportunities to use inline process signals to drive process improvements without having to wait for probe results
  • Support and develop new detection tools and inspection strategies to localize and identify process issues with the mindset of "how can improve my success rate?"
  • Build and improve upon techniques and identify new ways to use existing tools in order to identify significant process issues
  • Test out and provide feedback on innovative solutions to aid in solution finding with one question in mind, "how can this be better?"
  • Participate in technical meetings when needed and synthesize from it new opportunities or novel approaches that Micron can use in the future


Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related field. Graduation date should not be prior to September 1, 2021.
