Intern - Process Hazard Analysis Engineer

TD PHA Engineers are responsible for managing the Process Hazard Analysis application for Microns Technology Development (TD) sites.  As new tools, chemistries or processes are planned for TD, the PHA Engineer will collect all of the data and documents to evaluate the potential risk factors and partner with stakeholders to design and implement mitigation strategies. The PHA Engineer is also an integral component to the TD Tool Install business process and supports a safe and streamlined program.  Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

Safety

  • Completes all required safety training and conducts all work in accordance with Micron and Technology Development (TD) safety policies
  • Follows-up on process safety, personnel safety and quality related issues immediately and works towards resolution with stakeholders
  • Performs and facilitates audits and submits actionable findings on safety issues
  • Proactively reduces risk levels, safety hazards and loss of primary containment
  • Reports all safety-related concerns or problems immediately to the appropriate individual (Emergency Response Team, Supervision, etc.)
  • Leads implementation of Micron’s risk based process safety management (PSM) system
  • Performs audits and submits process safe catches and  good catches on safety issues

 

Communication

  • Partners with key stakeholders to develop applications to continuously improve process safety metrics
  • Collaborate with site EHS, facilities engineers, TD engineers and suppliers to define and implement safe alternatives and appropriate control measures when process hazards are identified
  • Partners with other stakeholders in the TD Tool Install business process and the Tool Install Qualification (TIQ) program
  • Partners with the PDE, MDE, Facilities, EHS and the Micron Global PSM community to deliver first-hand information, specifications, and training related to process hazard characterization of new processes and equipment transferring from TD to high volume manufacturing (HVM)

 

Project Management/Planning:

  • Assists or leads process safety projects through all phases (initiate, plan, execute, closeout) with multiple stakeholders
  • Provides project-specific direction and guidance to project team to facilitate timely, low risk,  quality-based results
  • Leads TD projects that define improvements in quality, efficiency and cost reduction while maintaining process safety solutions

 

Technical/Data:

  • Systematically reviews process safety hazards for new equipment and changes to existing equipment, including  processes, chemicals, or hardware within TD Identifies and characterizes process hazards in the development of new processes, parts, and technologies within TD
  • Conducts or participates in thorough process hazard analyses (i.e. HazOp or other hazard analyses) to determine hazard potential impact to TD and to HVM
  • Leads the development of engineering solutions and strategies for controlling physical and health hazards at all points of a new process, chemistry, or system (i.e. manufacturing process to abatement) before the process transfers to HVM
  • Reviews the process chemistry, including reactivity, byproduct formation, and other material characteristics (i.e. flammability, corrosivity, etc.)
  • Reviews typical process operations, including the possibility of upsets, modes of failure, and consequence of failures

 

Fab Performance:

  • Reviews FOAK and SOAK tool installations prior to install
  • Reviews FOAK and SOAK Facilities systems prior to install
  • Reviews process development and scale up with respect to process hazards and personnel safety, and proactively address topics that have the potential to disrupt process development
  • Support TD development and pilot production by way of cost effective engineering solutions to hazard scenarios
  • Reviews technology transfer processes that are probable to transfer out of TD to HVM, and proactively addresses process safety related topics that have the potential to disrupt high volume manufacturing operations.

 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in process safety management and process hazard analysis
  • Thorough understanding of the Micron leadership long and short term goals and how the PHA group goals align to them
  • Excellent multi-tasking, time-management, organization and prioritization skills
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships
  • Proven ability to communicate complex analysis in a succinct and actionable manner
  • Proven ability to plan, drive and complete projects effectively

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and efficiently facilitate meetings and project teams

  • Proven ability to communicate and present technical information effectively

 

 

Education and Experience:

  • Required: BS in Chem. or Chemical engineering with semiconductor technology experience
  • Preferred: BS in Chemical Engineering with advanced degree or certification in Process Safety Management. 
  • Graduation date should not be prior to December 2021.
