Facilities Project Engineering Lead

As the Boise Facilities Engineering and Construction Project Services Lead at Micron, you will be responsible for managing a team that works closely with Manufacturing, Operations, Safety, Environmental, Risk Management, and other stakeholders in the organization to assure coordination of design and construction efforts with all effected groups. The primary function of the group is the management of Construction Projects, Construction Work Orders, Document Control Services, as well as participating in site planning activities and aligning on best practices with the Facilities Central Organization and other key stakeholders.


Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Safety & Quality

  • Completes all required safety training and conducts all work in accordance with Micron and Technology Development (TD) safety policies
  • Stops work for safety if unsafe conditions and/or behaviors are identified
  • Utilizes and reviews job hazard analysis (JHA/JSA) for work being performed
  • Follows all safety and environmental procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations including PPE, CoHe (lockout /tagout) and chemical safety.
  • Follows-up on safety and quality related issues immediately and works towards resolution with stakeholders
  • Actively participates in the EHS program by reporting all EHS-related concerns or problems immediately (maximum 24 hours)
  • Performs and facilitates audits and submits good catches
  • Always wears appropriate PPE, per JHA, Supervisor, EHS professionals, and/or job designation
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to reduce potential hazards which may impact personnel health and/or the environment.
  • Uses proper lifting techniques and works in an ergonomically correct manner
  • Follows proper change management practices to ensure safety and quality expectations are met
  • Drives quality improvement initiatives in their area to reduce Fab impacts, improve efficiency and identify cost savings.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and tools within manufacturer’s and company guidelines to ensure safety and quality expectations are met
  • Ensures area-specific procedures and documents exist and submits updates to content when needed



  • Ensures area complies with applicable outside agency rules and regulatory requirements
  • Ensures area complies with Micron policies and external quality and EHS certification standards
  • Coordinates with internal environmental, safety and legal teams to ensure area policies are accurate and clear
  • Ensures area remains current on policy changes
  • Ensures area receives appropriate training based on city/state/federal agency requirements and job responsibilities


Area Performance:

  • Oversees the management of the Project Manager, Work Order Coordination, and Document Control for Boise site projects
  • Defines and requires a systematic project management methodology for initiating, planning, executing and completing critical projects
  • Oversees cost estimates and maintains department budgets
  • Ensures area financial budgeting, forecasting, and expenditures for operations and projects are accurate
  • Works with purchasing and other sites to reduce cost and negotiate terms
  • Reviews area trends and data to determine expense budget and capital needs
  • Develops long term improvement strategies by monitoring area processes and systems
  • Makes disciplined business-driven decisions by gathering data and team feedback
  • Deploys and communications new initiatives, goals and expectations through area


Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintains communication with entire organization
  • Maintains communication with other area managers to ensure facilities and production needs are being addressed
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Micron's facilities systems and communicates status to Boise site customers and management
  • Partners with key customer groups, including other Facilities departments, Facilities Central Organization, Procurement, and Finance, to manage construction projects
  • Identifies areas of improvement and potential efficiency gains
  • Establishes regular, working interaction with peers from all Micron/JV sites
  • Develops trust with customers by providing expert assistance and advice
  • Establishes and communicates long term strategic goals and direction


Team Development and Performance Management:

  • Conducts performance management and professional development for their direct reports
  • Knows Micron Technology policies and partners closely with HR
  • Develops challenging performance targets for the organization and communicates line of sight goals to leaders and individual contributors
  • Leads by example, demonstrating Micron values when performing business and interacting with leaders and team members
  • Creates a positive and effective area culture
  • Fosters innovation, continuous improvement, and growth within team
  • Establishes a succession plan for all critical positions


Successful Candidates must have the following Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of current construction processes, contracting methodologies, and a solid understanding of project financing and scheduling practices
  • Demonstrated success in previous leadership positions
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Proven ability to drive multiple complex projects to completion
  • Proven ability to communicate and present technical information effectively
  • Proven ability to accurately analyze and interpret data to make data-driven decisions
  • Strong conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Proven ability to develop and coach team members
  • Proven ability to mentor and successfully manage the performance of direct and eventual reports
  • Demonstrated ability to partner successfully with other groups and build strong peer relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and promote technical expertise
  • Proven ability to solicit feedback, accept input, and analyze success/failure
  • Proven ability to identify, understand, and mitigate risk before making critical decisions

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a relevant field or equivalent education and experience
