Equipment Support Technician (Entry Level)

As an Equipment Support (ES) Technician, at SpecTek, a division of Micron Technology, Inc. you will be responsible for supporting SpecTek’s global business operations. You will apply technical maintenance disciplines by repairing, maintaining, converting, modifying, and installing automated semiconductor processing equipment such as die and component handlers, component testers, burn-in equipment and pick and place systems as necessary to ensure that the equipment is able to perform as required to meet the rigors of a 24/7 operation.


In this role, you will utilize electronic and mechanical measurement tools, hand and power tools, apply repair knowledge and technical restoration principles to repair parts and assemblies for the various equipment sets and processes. You will also work with Engineers and Operators to become a subject matter expert (SME), operating and repairing various equipment sets.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Repair, Maintain, Convert, Modify, And Install Equipment

  • Diagnose equipment problems and implement immediate solutions.
  • Evaluate problems using proven systematic troubleshooting methods.
  • Use applicable equipment tracking system to obtain equipment history and ensure record keeping/document with system.
  • Perform preventive maintenance.
  • Perform calibrations on area equipment.
  • Select and utilize accurate test equipment and tools.
  • Follow standardized procedures and guidelines.
  • Stay ahead of process and equipment procedures.
  • Keep work areas clean and organized.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics and machine manuals to perform safe and effective repairs while using basic electrical concepts, practices, and theory.

Monitor Equipment Performance And Efficiency

  • Tune the equipment for optimal efficiency and throughput.
  • Suggest any improvement ideas to Equipment Engineers.

Communicate Information

  • Communicate with production to relay problems, changes, or request information as needed.
  • Provide feedback, observations, and data to the engineering group to help resolve chronic problems.

Provide Customer Service

  • Meet the expectations and requirements of internal/external customers.
  • Respond quickly and positively to all customers.
  • Prioritize work when customer needs arise.
  • Maintain and improve quality of equipment during the repair process.
  • Cultivate a professional positive relationship with customers.
  • Follow up with customers to ensure issues have been resolved.

Maintain A Safe Work Environment

  • Perform all responsibilities and tasks in a safe manner.
  • Comply with all safe work practices, which include company, local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Follow safety and PPE protocols while working on/around equipment.
  • Communicate area safety concerns to leadership.
  • Know and apply energy isolation procedures.
  • Access and use Micron SDS/CEDAR programs to obtain chemical information.
  • Act safely in emergency situations.

Support And Perform EHSS Responsibilities

  • Identify and promptly report any conditions or behaviors that are contrary to EHS policies or procedures.
  • Follow safety procedures and area work rules (including use of proper PPE, energy isolation, and chemical safety).
  • Operate and maintain equipment and tools within manufacturer and company guidelines.
  • Use accurate lifting techniques and work in an ergonomically correct manner.
  • Cooperate with all audits.


  • Required: Associates Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Electronics or related fields
  • Desired: Associates Degree or equivalent experience in Electro-Mechanical Automation/Robotics, Electronics, Manufacturing, or related
  • Able to fix and repair different tools.
  • Desire and ability to solve complex problems.
  • Can perform preventative maintenance.
  • Intermediate computer and documentation skills.
  • Ability to install, modify, calibrate, and convert tools.
  • Solid functional technical skills.
  • Consistently punctual and be reliable.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Good time management.


  • Required: 1 year experience in mechanical skills or troubleshooting/repair
  • Desired: 1 year experience in technical support role



  • International travel may be required, business needs will determine frequency
  • Environment: production floor (non-clearnroom,) office
  • 8+ hour shift, 5 days a week
  • Job Hazards: confined space, exposed electrical circuits, high noise, mechanical equipment, thermal equipment
  • Personal Protective Equipment (as applicable): acid gear, acid gloves, eye and face protection, thermal gloves
  • Equipment Use (as applicable): ladders, lifts, power pallet jacks, power tools
  • Physical Requirements: working on equipment for 10 - 12 hours, extended periods of working at computers with other electronic equipement. Able to move/lift objects that weight up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
