The Data Governance Architect is responsible for defining, developing, and maintaining strategy and policies that streamline the processes of master data management. They hold the accountability for data quality and its fitness for purpose by internal customers. The Data Governance Architect translates the needs of the business into a pipeline of master data continuous improvement activities. They work to advance data governance maturity in a way that’s consistent with industry standards and best practices.


  • Conduct data management maturity assessments and identify pain points for capabilities including data quality, governance, architecture, analytics, metadata management, master data management, etc.
  • Assess the complete future state governance strategy and roadmaps
  • Define desired future state view of Micron's Data Governance; this will include recommendations for business capabilities, organizational adjustments and technical components to support Data Governance utilizing the results of the current state assessment and the proposed future state, while identifying gaps
  • Assess and enhance governance roles and responsibilities required to operate and sustain the Data governance ecosystem
  • Define operating models for data governance
  • Justify the roadmap by building a strong business case with qualitative and quantitative analysis
  • Demonstrate a rigorous, and analytical problem-solving approach, leading information gathering sessions and preparing and delivering client presentations and work products/prototypes
  • Provide thought leadership, frameworks, best practices required to deliver effective data governance solutions
  • Identify Data Governance gaps and assess Data Governance maturity
  • Understand the major use cases that are driving data governance and determine if there are mismatches with the current state and plans
  • Identify the implications for Data Governance that arise from the technology, current processes, and skill levels
  • Identify the implications for Data Governance that arise from the types of data being ingested (e.g. structured, semi-structured, unstructured), the volumes, the rate of change, and the number of sources involved
  • Identify the implications for Data Governance that arise from legal, privacy, contractual, and compliance obligations
  • Address metadata strategy needed for the efficient operation
  • Lead the implementation of support structures for mastering data, including: workflows, business rules, standard work, and systems
  • Provide criteria that delineates governed master data from locally managed reference data
  • Oversee the completion of master data governance action items
  • Drive strategic projects to ensure robust master data governance is integrated in their outcome
  • Oversee the implementation of master data quality validation mechanisms including manual audits and automation
  • Build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of internal organizations to understand future data needs
  • Build and maintain relationships with data stewards to understand their struggles


Competencies and Behaviors

  • Significant experience with data governance program design and implementation in complex environments
  • Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills - Ability to explain value of data governance to both business and technical stakeholders
  • Ability to analyze complex environments, distill concepts and present to clients
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, negotiation and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Understanding of enterprise data management concepts and best practices
  • Strong project management skills
  • Continuous improvement methodologies
  • Significant experience with business process analysis
  • Strong emotional intelligence and relationship building ability
  • Experience with master data quality analysis
  • Strong presentation, communication and discussion skills



  • 10+ years of practical experience combined: master data governance, master data architecture and master data management
  • In-depth experience of data governance and data management concepts, approaches, and tools and the role of data governance in the successful implementation of a data governance strategy in a manufacturing setting.
  • 5+ years of experience deploying large-scale system changes in a production environment
  • Certification (Preferred) - Data Management, Scrum, ITIL
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technology degree
  • Master's Degree preferred
