As an Advanced Materials Modeling and Process Analytics Engineer, you will support the predictive materials, process, and structure modeling projects within technology development organization at Micron Technology Inc. You will contribute to application and development of modeling methods to understand, simulate, analyze, and resolve complex materials and process challenges for accelerated technology development cycles. You will perform simulations of complex materials physics and surface chemistry to characterize the fundamental process interactions and its material impact on thin-films and patterned nanostructures. You will guide and support critical projects through enabling informed decisions on materials and process selection along with estimating correlations across processing parameters and structures, and new materials and device performance. You must have strong knowledge and proven background in linking first-principles-based (ab initio) atomic-scale modeling to nano-, micro-, meso-, and continuum-scale simulations.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Modeling of complex materials, films, stacks, and interfaces using ab initio methods within density functional theory and beyond
  • Estimation of structural, thermo-mechanical, thermodynamic, chemical, transport, electronic, optical, and magnetic properties
  • Simulation of plasma and feature profile during dry etch processing
  • Advanced use of DFT calculations and statistical methods is encouraged
  • Support development of portable 3D structural models with improved meshing algorithms
  • Contribute to development of standalone applications for large-scale geometry construction and visualization
  • Clear documentation and dissemination of technical findings, model predictions, and solution recommendations
  • DFT calculations on high-performance computing clusters
  • Application of computational materials science, atomistic modeling, statistical mechanics, thermodynamic modeling, transport processes
  • Contribute to development of predictive process and structure DOE models using statistical and machine learning techniques
  • Perform quantifiable predictions of etch/deposition rates, and film properties for advanced memory applications
  • Clearly communicate technical information in verbal and written forms to various stakeholders
  • Develop models and perform simulations to recommend improvement to materials and processes
  • Coordinate collection of information on process, spectroscopy, and materials characterization
  • Work with process development groups to design novel chemistries or processes for deposition and etching
  • Expert use of DFT, MC, MD, and experience with HPEM simulations to resolve multi-scale problems

 

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of quantum chemistry, statistical mechanics, plasma physics, and proven mechanics
  • Knowledge of density functional theory, reactive force-fields, embedded-atom methods, MC, MD, and phase field techniques
  • Proficiency in applying statistical methods, machine learning, and AI techniques (Linear and NL regression, Bayesian Statistics, DOE, Naive Bayes, Clustering, Decision Trees, Random Forest, ANN, CNN, NLP etc.)
  • Proficiency in estimating surface reactions and performing structural/feature-scale simulations
  • Experience with VASP, LAMMPS, Jaguar, HPEM
  • Strong knowledge of numerical methods, Fortran/C/C++ programming, MPI processes and threading, PYTHON/Perl/Tcl/Tk scripting languages, MATLAB, and Linux operating systems on multicore multimode architectures and GPUs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to operate independently in a highly interdisciplinary fast-paced dynamic environment

 

Education:

  • A PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related discipline.
