Intern - Software Development Engineer

As a Systems Engineering Intern at Micron Technology, Inc., you will be working in the Advanced Computing and Emerging Memory Solutions (ACEMS) group assisting in the design and simulation of next generation computing and memory architectures. We are a leading architecture team in the memory industry, and we want your help! We are defining new device concepts that will shape the future of computing systems. Responsibilities will include working with an existing development team supporting broad development needs in the areas of performance monitoring, performance instrumentation, system modeling, computer architecture and application development. Other areas of responsibility may include development of test infrastructure, compilers, and machine learning tools.

 

This position is in sunny Allen, TX, just north of Dallas. We have a flexible work environment and value contribution and effort over simply filling the 9-5.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Profiling and analyzing applications to resolve performance bottlenecks
  • Partitioning and porting applications to take advantage of heterogeneous architectures
  • Identifying candidate applications based on market and estimated performance upside
  • Working with architecture and development teams to improve performance of hardware and software
  • Working with the design teams to define technical requirements and specifications for compiler, debug and performance analysis tools
  • Working with customers to understand applications and assist with porting and optimizing applications
  • Development of Linux drivers, runtime libraries and tools
  • Development of an LLVM based compiler for heterogeneous compute architectures
  • Experimenting with machine learning models on custom hardware

Qualifications:

  • Strong programming skills in C and C++
  • Programming skills with scripting languages: bash, Perl, Python
  • Knowledge of application profiling tools and optimization techniques
  • Knowledge of computer architectures, cache coherency and parallel computing
  • Experience with Linux systems and software development
  • Source management using SVN and/or Git
  • Strong debug and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity of compiler optimizations and LLVM codebase
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience writing reports and/or conference papers
  • Experience designing and conducting system experiments
  • Understanding of memory command interfaces (e.g. DDR4) and technologies (SRAM, DRAM, Flash, PCM, etc.)
  • Experience with Deep Neural Network programming, CNNs and frameworks (e.g. Keras, PyTorch, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a team environment and experience with remote collaboration tools

Education Requirements:

  • Pursuing a Master’s or Ph.D. in computer engineering, computer science or related fields. Graduation date should not be prior to September 2021.
