Job Description

As a Quality and Reliability Assurance Solid State Drive (SSD) Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the qualification of SSD products. This will involve the analysis of both internal and customer requirements, development of qualification plans, analysis of qualification data, performing electrical and mechanical analysis of failing devices, and working with other engineering teams to identify root cause and/or new testing methodologies.


Responsibilities and Tasks

Manage New Product Qualification

                •  Define qualification plan

                •  Facilitate and manage qualification

                •  Analyze Reliability data for product validation within specific internal and customer requirements

                •  Comprehend failures and failure rate within the scope of the qualification

                •  Perform risk assessment at all decision points within qualification cycle

                •  Perform Bench Level Failure Analysis (FA) and coordinate root cause and corrective action with other internal engineering groups


Provide Internal SSD Qualification Communication

                •  Analyze weekly progress

                •  Publish weekly status to customers

                •  Provide risk assessment to customer

                •  Assess customer feedback

                •  Communicate the customer feedback internally


Develop Product Reliability Methodology

                •  Coordinate with research and development teams

                •  Comprehend new SSD processes/technologies for product reliability issues

                •  Develop product reliability tests to assess new SSD failure mechanisms


Internal Technical Support for RMA Material

                •  Assist SSD RMA Team with electrical analysis of returned material

                •  Provide input on manufacturing history and known issues relative to customer failure signature

                •  Assist with necessary corrective actions at manufacturing level

                •  Comprehend field failure rates relative to internal failure rates


Provide Expertise and Consultation

                •  Support Global Qual Meetings

                •  On-board new team members

                •  Train, mentor, and develop new talent

                •  Interface with engineering groups on quality issues

                •  Obtain product knowledge


Education Required

Masters Degree

•  Engineering – Computer or Electrical                  

•  Related field of study



PHD Degree

•  Engineering – Computer or Electrical                  

•  Related field of study


 Experience Required

Multiple years’ experience in any of the following:

•  Reliability • Storage Industry



                •  An understanding of NAND memory operation             

                •  An understanding of computer architecture   

                •  Programming experience in C, PERL required. JAVA and JMP a plus.     

                •  Familiarity with Windows, Linux and Mac OS  

                •  Knowledge of storage interface standards such as SATA, SAS, PCIe, or Fibre Channel (preferred)            

                •  The ability to drive engineering efforts through all aspects of new product qualifications            

                •  The ability to analyze problems, diagnose root cause, and apply corrective actions        

                •  Good communication, documentation, leadership, problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a team environment    

                •  High level of proficiency with both verbal and written English skills required    

                •  An understanding of computer storage operation
