 As a Corporate Process Safety Engineer in operations the duties will include but are not limited to the responsibility for helping to implement Micron’s chemical process safety management (PSM) system across the global network of manufacturing facilities.


The successful candidate will be able to identify and characterize hazards associated with processes, equipment, and technologies and work with corporate and sites engineering personnel including teams from site Facilities engineering, process and equipment engineering (PEE), Fab Support, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Research & Development, Materials Management, Operations, Business Leadership teams, and Legal to plan and lead in the development and implementation of process safety improvements worldwide. Process safety overall has tremendous growth opportunity and a Corporate Process Safety Engineer is especially high profile and is an exceptional opportunity for career development. We are looking for someone to start around September, 2017. Successful External candidate would be located at any Micron Front Endof Line site.




  • Systematically review chemical and tool safety for new or changed processes, chemicals, or equipment.
  • Identify and characterize process hazards in the development of new and legacy processes, parts, and technologies.
  • Conduct or participate in thorough process hazard analyses (i.e. HazOp or other hazard analyses) to determine hazard potential impact to the global network.
  • Work with global network in the development of engineering solutions and strategies for controlling physical and health hazards at all points of a new or legacy process, chemistry, or system (i.e. manufacturing process to abatement).
  • Work with site Facilities engineering, process and equipment engineering, EHS, and Research and Development to define and implement process safety solutions and strategies for controlling process hazards associated with chemistries, tools, and facilities systems.
  • Work in conjunction with the Technology Transfer Teams and the Micron Global PSM community to deliver first-hand information, specifications, and training related to process hazard characterization of new processes transferring from Process R&D to High Volume Manufacturing (HVM).
  • Evaluate process safety impact on recipe, hardware, and new tool installations.
  • Review of process chemistry, including reactivity, byproduct formation, and other material characteristics (i.e. flammability, corrosiveness, etc).
  • Make technical determinations and recommendations to minimize process hazards for equipment, abatement, and other operational equipment.
  • Identify and implement operational reliability and Process Safety opportunities
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
  • Monitor and track performance indicators (KPI) that clearly define success for process safety management. Leverage a blend of leading and lagging indicators.
  • Drive closure to gaps in process safety metrics/KPI performance.
  • Leverage internal and external (industry) benchmarking.
  • Implement process safety risk assessment as a standard way of business within Micron network; work to instill a culture of safety.
  • Work with the R&D team and the Supplier Community to ensure technical safety requirements are met for both incoming and legacy tools/processes in the most cost effective manner.
  • Provide tactical determinations and recommendations for efforts to minimize costs, process hazards for abatement systems, wastewater treatment, waste collection systems, and other operational equipment.

  • A thorough understanding of Micron’s internal semiconductor process flow and manufacturing.
  • Must have excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must be an effective communicator and group facilitator, and have the ability to work with a diverse group of scientists and engineers to lead development of viable solutions.
  • Must have knowledge or experience with chemical, tool material safety, and safe engineering solutions.
  • Must have experience in Risk Based Process Safety (RBPS) Management including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) such as HazOp.
  • An understanding of chemistry with regard to safety hazards, environmental impacts, and mitigation strategies associated with semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations and standards as they pertain to semiconductor manufacturing.



  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering or Higher, or equivalent industry experience



  • Must be willing to travel ~ one week per/month
