Facilities Environment Health Safety(EHS) Manager

Job Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for the establishing and implementing of MMY Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) programs at the site and leading the EHS Section, reporting to EHS/Facilities Director. He/She is required to develop strategies to insure compliance with applicable local regulations and in line with Micron EHS policies. He /She is also be responsible to interface with outside governmental agencies and other internal groups.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Hire, train and develop a world class site EHS Team and manage their performance and development.
  • Set and communicate goals, expectations and directions for the team.
  • Work under consultative direction toward predetermined goals and objectives in areas of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS). Assignments are self-initiated.
  • Review and set annual EHS metrics for incorporation into policy deployment and develops plans to ensure achievement of EHS metrics.
  • Manage EHS Steering Committee to set charters and goals to be aligned with achieving EHS Metrices.
  • Develop, implement and maintain programs designed to insure compliance with existing local laws, regulations, pertaining to EHS for employees at Micron. Major areas may include: Environmental, Health, Safety, First Aid and injuries management.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate program to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths and financial losses arising from unsafe behavior and condition
  • Identify potential or actual areas of non-compliance by setting up system by audit/on-site inspections and evaluation of corrective action in place to ensure its effectiveness and to prevent recurrence. Ensures preparation of accurate and concise reports on the inspection findings along with recommendations for corrective action to management.
  • Supervise EHS sampling, monitoring, and record keeping.
  • Oversee the process for reviewing and approving the use of chemicals, including safe storage and use, inventory tracking, regulatory reporting, disposal, and shipping.
  • Maintain the process for reviewing and implementing legal and other requirements changes for the site.
  • Maintain good knowledge of requirements imposed by government agencies, and advise management of any changes affecting the business processes.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of regulatory and industry standard requirements, and best known practices.
  • Communicate regularly with the management, all site departments, Corporate EHSS, Legal representative, regarding external and site-specific EHS related issues and updates.
  • Lead the team to evaluate safety risks and environmental impacts related to job activities, products and equipment’s and perform the risks analysis via EHS Risk Assessment and setting up of control system to ensure Risk Assessments are updated periodically to ensure appropriateness.
  • Appraise condition, which could produce accidents and evaluate potential extent of injuries resulting from accidents. Recommend reasonably practicable measures eliminate or minimize any foreseeable accidents.
  • Work with in-house vendors and contractors on lesson learnt sharing session and evaluate its appropriateness to implement throughout the organization.
  • Promote and support EHS activities to ensure implementation of site and Corporate EHS programs throughout the organization.
  • Compile, analyze, and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepare reports for information and to implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain communication with external organizations, such as NEA/PUB/SCDF/SPF/MOM, safety organizations and public authorities, and rescue teams for information exchange.
  • Initiate proactive EHS projects (Energy Savings, Waste reductions, recycling, injury reduction, etc.)
  • Implement management systems in alignment with OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001.
  • Manage EHS training programs to ensure all Team Members comply with EHS policy and practices.
  • Manage group expense budget.

 

Job Requirements

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS, Engineering or related discipline

 

Experience, Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant EHS experience in a semiconductor/ cleanroom environment
  • Ability to communicate in Malay language.
  • Leadership skills to lead a team to excellence
  • Good understanding of OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 Management systems and knowledge of Audits processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to communicate in Malay will be an added advantage
  • Has worked with external government agencies in Malayia previously, especially in Muar
  • Able to lead effectively in emergency situations
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Self motivated and able to work independently on multiple tasks concurrently
  • Excellent analytical capabilities and problem solving skills
  • Excellent reading and interpretive skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize work
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and foster positive work relationships
  • Able to work on own initiative with little or no supervision while maintaining compliance with policies and practices established for the department and company

  • Certified Environmental Professional in Scheduled Waste Management
  • Course for Certified Environmental Professional in Scrubber Operation
  • Certified Environmental Professional in the Operation of Industrial Effluent Treatment Systems (Physical Chemical Processes)
