SSD System Architect Modeling Intern

As a Solid State Drive (SSD) System Architecture Modeling Intern at Micron Technology, Inc., you will Lead a project to develop high-performance controller and SSD architecture stochastic model for innovative volatile and non-volatile memory systems. You can expect to work closely with system architects, firmware architects and design engineers within this project.


Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


Using stochastic modeling in estimating probability distributions of potential outcomes by allowing for random variation in SSD system inputs over workloads. This would require working with existing event driven system performance analysis of new advanced architectures in comparison with existing paradigms. Working with internal SSD Architects to optimize and characterize behaviors under captured workloads that can influence new device components and features as well as novel system architectures. These activities will entail choosing the appropriate simulation tools/environment; constructing or modifying component models including memory devices, controllers, interconnects, and processors; use of relevant captured workloads; constructing performance monitoring means (e.g. energy, cycles, statistics gathering, etc.). The scope will span from component-level to full system-level stochastic modeling, analysis, and benchmarking. Candidates should have strong knowledge of stochastic modeling and tool languages along with development of cycle-approximate/accurate models for interconnects. Knowledge in memory controllers, Firmware and embedded SoC controllers is a plus. The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering results aligned with the project goals and intern deration.


A successful candidate for this position will have the following:


•Academic experience in embedded systems with strong working knowledge of modeling tools and techniques

•A strong knowledge through academic coursework or experience in storage and NAND memory systems, as well as other memory types.

• Academic experience in stochastic modeling with results from coursework project or papers.

•Exposure to various storage bus protocols (PCIe NVMe) or ARM busses such as AMBA

•Exposure to ARM based processors is preferred

•Strong working knowledge of architecture tradeoff analysis and modeling tools, commercial and in-house

•Must have C/C++ and SystemC experience; Systems Verilog, and Python experience is a plus

•Exposure to SW development practices

•Exposure to HDL development flows and processes

•Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills

•Excellent verbal communication and written skills

•Ability to be highly organized and self-motivated

•Must be a strong individual contributor as well as a team player



A PhD candidate in Electrical or Electronics Engineering; or Computer Science or equivalent.
