CVD Equipment Maintenance Technician

You will participate in a comprehensive training program for the first ninety days at Micron.  This program will include classroom instruction, mentoring, and interactive on-the-job training.  This ninety day program will provide you an overview of Micron's business operations, technical training, and the cultural philosophy of the company.   After training, you will be placed in a position well suited to your unique skills and abilities.

As a Fab Equipment Maintenance Technician at Micron, you will be engaged in maintaining and improving state-of-the-art processing equipment.  You will also be responsible to support and repair equipment in CVD, Photo, Dry Etch, Wet Process, CMP, Implant and PVD.


Position Description

As a Shift Technician at Micron Technology in Manassas, Virginia, you are responsible for monitoring, sustaining, and improving the equipment and/or processes in the assigned area, while working in partnership with production team members and area engineers. Shift Technicians monitor tool performance, schedule and perform preventative maintenance on assigned tool sets, and use mechanical, electronic and PC/software skills to troubleshoot and repair equipment issues. They are also required to assist with equipment installs; tests; create and modify equipment procedures; and increase tool uptime through systematic problem solving and troubleshooting, quality workmanship, thoroughly document all maintenance performed in established check sheets and tracking programs, and routine review of maintenance check sheets and procedures. They monitor, analyze and address SPC issues for area processes on a daily basis and respond to SPC out of control issues. Shift Technicians are required to keep the Lead Tech and/or Lead Engineer updated on tool and area issues.



  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of AC/DC circuits, including: fundamentals of electricity, and basic electronic components and circuits
  • Basic understanding of mathematical concepts and problem solving at least into an algebraic level
  • Basic PC skills including MS Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot basic problems and address root causes
  • A strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to use schematic diagrams to troubleshoot electronics down to the board level.
  • Ability to properly use common hand tools
  • Effective time management and prioritization skills
  • Proven ability in multi-tasking complex projects
  • Basic data extraction, analysis and reporting skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
  • The ability to be flexible with job responsibilities and take the initiative to assume added responsibilities
  • Successfully demonstrated teamwork skills with a strong focus on effective team dynamics
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be flexible to work any shift and rotate shifts as needed


Successful Candidate Description

  • Basic understanding of physics concepts and principles
  • Basic knowledge of test and calibration equipment (O-scopes, DMMs, etc.)
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of the specific area equipment and processes
  • Basic understanding of SPC principles and proper application
  • Additional preferences may be defined by the area leadership
  • Basic understanding of semiconductor equipment and processes


Education Requirements

  • AAS in Electronics, BS in Electronics Engineering Technology, or equivalent military experience.
