Job Description

As a Senior Financial Accountant at Micron Technology, Inc., you will be responsible for preparing and reviewing monthly account reconciliations, preparing and reviewing journal entries through accessing data in financial systems and customer reports, and performing monthly fluctuation analysis which will include researching, identifying, and documenting variance justifications. Additional responsibilities include providing data to customers, management, and auditors, providing consultation and training to customers, mentoring members of your team, leading aspects of ad hoc projects, maintaining knowledge of policies and regulatory compliance regulations, and presenting information to finance management.              



Responsibilities and Tasks           

Prepare Journal Entries and Review for Accuracy

                • Collect data from financial systems and customer reporting

                • Analyze and review data to determine appropriate entries

                • Document justifications for entry

                • Post entries into the General Ledger (GL)

                • Provide hardcopy data backup


Perform and Validate Monthly Account Reconciliation

                • Run reports to identify financial activities

                • Validate beginning and ending balances between Reconciliation and SAP accounts

                • Research and provide detail of activity for each account

                • Monitor and investigate account discrepancies

                • Document unusual activity


Prepare Monthly Account Fluctuations

                • Obtain and review balance reports by accounts and functional areas

                • Identify account threshold and determine larger variances

                • Research, identify, and document variance justifications

                • Follow-up on discrepancies and perform appropriate actions as necessary


Perform Accounting Research and Provide Consultation

                •  Field questions from auditors regarding assumptions and judgments

                •  Field internal customer questions regarding expense and journal entries

                •  Present data to internal customers upon request and provide consultation

                •  Identify potential issues, research applicable Accounting literature, and propose solutions to finance management


Provide Expertise and Assist Team

                • Maintain expertise of internal policy and regulatory compliance requirements (SOX, GAAP, etc.)

                • Lead subtasks of ad hoc projects for cross-functional teams

                • Provide training to internal customers and peers

                • Provide special reports for finance management

                • Interact with other teams regarding general accounting issues

                • Act as a mentor and knowledge resource for less senior team members

                • Assist others with workload when necessary



  • Minimum a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/ Accounting or a related field                                
  • 5 years’ experience in an accounting/Finance role    
  • Understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)            
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel
  • Systems aptitude and proficiency in extracting relevant data from systems       
  • Experience in SAP        
  • Ability to understand policies, procedures and department objectives and apply that knowledge when making decisions             
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills              
  • Exceptional customer satisfaction and interpersonal skills         
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills       
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy               
  • Ability to act and operate independently with minimal supervision/direction   
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines in a rapidly changing environment            
  • Excellent project management skills    
  • Proven facilitation skills including ability to influence others, build consensus, and resolve conflict
