SSD System Architecture Modelling Engineer

As a Solid State Drive (SSD) System Architecture Modeling Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will develop high-performance controller and SSD architecture models for innovative volatile and non-volatile memory systems. You can expect to work closely with system architects, firmware architects, firmware test architects, system hardware design engineers, product engineers, memory design engineers, and production engineers to solve cross-functional product development issues.

 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

 

Performing cycle accurate and event driven system performance analysis of new advanced architectures in comparison with existing paradigms. Working with internal engineering teams and external customers to optimize and characterize new device components and features as well as novel system architectures. These activities will entail choosing the appropriate simulation tools/environment; constructing or modifying component models including memory devices, controllers, interconnects, and processors; verification, generating or acquiring relevant workloads; constructing performance monitoring means (e.g. energy, cycles, statistics gathering, etc.). The scope will span from component-level to full system-level modeling, analysis, and benchmarking. Candidates should have strong knowledge of hardware systems including experience with modeling languages and development of cycle-approximate/accurate models for interconnects and memory controllers in large SoC projects while working in a collaborative environment.  The successful applicant will be responsible for creating innovative solutions, modeling, and analyzing them to demonstrate the benefits and trade-offs.

 

A successful candidate for this position will have the following:

 

•Experience in modeling for HW systems with strong working knowledge of modeling tools and techniques

•A strong knowledge through academic coursework or experience in DRAM and NAND memory systems, as well as other memory types are preferred

•Exposure to various bus protocols (AMBA, CoreConnect, OCP) and network on chip

•Exposure to ARM based processors is preferred

•Strong exposure to bus performance analysis and design tradeoffs

•Strong working knowledge of architecture tradeoff analysis and modeling tools, commercial and in-house

•Must have C/C++ and SystemC experience; Systems Verilog, and Python experience is a plus

•Must have an understanding of how to use the Standard Template Library (STL)

•Ability to quickly react and adapt to changes based on modeling results

•Strong exposure to micro-architecture analysis and implementation

•Exposure to SW development practices

•Exposure to HDL development flows and processes

•Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills

•Excellent verbal communication and written skills

•Ability to be highly organized and self-motivated

•Must be a strong individual contributor as well as a team player

 

Education:

PhD in Electrical or Electronics Engineering; or Computer Science or equivalent.
