Intern - Software/Data Analytics

Date: Sep 29, 2017

Location: Boise, ID, US

Company: Micron

Req. ID: 94623

This job is in the recovery business at Micron Technology in a department called ‘SPECTEK’.  The job will involve a combination of software coding and data analytics to collect, organize and prepare data for analysis.  We have a great and useful idea for a project of approximately 12 weeks broken up into four objectives:  1)  Scoping a project with the help of mentor, 2)  Detailing a plan of action,  3) Executing the plan and finally 4)  writing a handoff synopsis.   The project will involve collecting data on various ‘flavors’ of defective products and eventually determining whether or not SpecTek should invest resources to continue recovering those products.  This is a practical project, and we expect to make use of the results after the internship is complete.

Expect approximately ½ of the total project time to involve custom coding/scripting where extracted raw data will be parse and formatted into a framework to be loaded into a database.  A database will be designed and set up to house the extracted raw data.  The database will be interfaced with a reporting tool such as TABLEAU or BIRT in order to present useful information.   Expect the remainder of time to be split between planning the project and writing a synopsis.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing Bachelor Degree in Engineering (with software interest) or Computer Science.
  • Software Coding/scripting – strong applied skills in at least one of the following PERL/PYTHON/C
  • Previous experience working in a Linux environment

Successful candidates for this position will:

  • Have background and interest in applied statistics
  • Have no problem asking lots of questions
  • Spend time understanding the objective of the project and the use of the end product
  • Planning this project will be just as important as executing and implementing it
  • Database experience – mysql, postgres or similar
  • Creative without fear of failure
