Intern - R&D Metrology Engineer

This position is for an internship in the Metrology Research and Development group in Boise.  In this role, you will work on projects relevant to current and future semiconductor manufacturing needs.  You will work with engineers in Metrology, as well as other process areas.  Projects may include focus on 1 of 5 disciplines within the metrology group; Optical Thin Films, Scatterometry/OCD, X-Ray, Overlay/Registration, or CDSEM.

 

In this role, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete two or three Metrology related projects and report on results.
  • Plan and run experiments in a semiconductor cleanroom using cutting edge technology.
  • Analyze top-down and cross-sectional SEM data using Excel and JMP.
  • Work on new metrology technology and measurement techniques to ensure that our measurement capabilities meet the technical device roadmaps.
  • Working with metrology equipment vendors on continuous improvement of software/hardware and development of new measurement techniques.
  • Understanding, optimizing and maintaining the calibration of metrology systems.
  • Working closely with process development and process integration engineers to optimize measurements for multiple device process flows and layer stacks.
  • Developing applications on next generation processes and technologies within Fab 4 and qualification for technology transfers to production fabs.
  • Evaluations of new metrology tools to determine lowest COO solutions with the highest accuracy and precision for deployment in R&D and high volume manufacturing.

 

Successful candidates for this position will have:

  • Process and equipment related experience or coursework in instrumentation and calibration procedures.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes (diffusion, CVD, Etch, Lithography) and device process flows (NAND, DRAM).
  • Good computer skills including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and JMP.
  • Strong data analysis skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • The ability to work individually on assigned tasks or as a team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

 

Education:

  • Applicants should be working towards an M. S. or Ph. D. in Engineering, Physics, Material Science, or a semiconductor-related field.
  • Must be continuing education in Fall of 2017 (Expected graduation date must not be before September 1st 2017)
