Director of Process Development - DRAM

As Director of Process Development for DRAM memory for Micron, you would be responsible for overall success and technology enablement of DRAM technology nodes by enabling advanced unit process technology solutions.  The individual in this role is responsible for setting technology roadmap for process areas that enables a competitive scaling of DRAM technology node and through partnership with key suppliers and internal teams delivers advanced unit process technology solutions. Through research and development s/he drives technical innovations in all unit process areas in the pursuit of process capability.  S/he utilizes innovative and strategic methods of process development by looking at novel approaches including development of new process materials, equipment development, enabling advanced process development, control strategy and close working relationship with external partners (including equipment/material vendors and research consortiums).

 

The Director enables the resolution of complex integration issues through process development solutions.  The incumbent sets strategic roadmaps that are in line with competing technologies and n+1 and n+2 forecasts.

 

They define and lead complex, multi-disciplinary teams of critical importance to the organization and the future of the company.  Sets group objectives in alignment with R&D objectives and take responsibility for group deliverables.

The Director of Process Development will promote innovation and drive for changes in current industry practice that will provide Micron with a technical advantage over its competition.  S/he drives area level development and may lead large projects that promote strategic technology success and that improve process margin, yield, cost, and performance compared to current generation products.

 

They will also provide detailed, expert analysis to team members and managers on project, technical or innovation issues.  Director is accountable and responsible for development capital budgets and ensures that strategic equipment and resources are in place in support of future technodes.  This individual is also responsible for transferring technologies into manufacturing and maintaining process and equipment alignment across multiple technologies.  They will use their technical and managerial expertise to guide the group towards achieving overall area objectives.  Projects have global reach both inside and outside of Micron.

Achieves objectives and deliverables without which there will be an inability to reach crucial organizational and technology objectives and would profoundly affect the image of the organization and the success of the company if not achieved.

 

Interaction:
Interacts with the technology development organization, R&D Operations, vendors, process integration, manufacturing, management, and senior customers on matters requiring coordination across organizational boundaries. Drives departmental and company objectives.

 

Additional Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Manage and Direct Photo, Diffusion/CVD, PVD/Implant, Wet Process, Dry Etch, CMP, and Metrology Unit Process areas.
  • Responsible for process and equipment development for key technologies.
  • Interface with equipment suppliers to develop new tooling for next generation memories.
  • Work with manufacturing fabs to facilitate successful transfer of new technology.
  • Mentor, develop and motivate senior leaders
  • Maintain efficient and effective allocation of capital and human resources to ensure optimal performance of the team
  • Demonstrate effective technology decision making. 
  • Provide guidance and direction in setting the company’s Technology Roadmaps. 
  • Provide technical leadership that influences and sets company direction. 
  • Be fully aware of the competitive landscape and the threat to Microns strategy.
  • Represent TD in providing cross functional/department leadership. 
  • Work effectively with other department leaders to drive company strategy and initiatives
  • Develop and communicate R&D strategic objectives. 
  • Understand the impact and implications of R&D strategy to the overall company strategy and ensure alignment.
  • Review, establish and prioritize projects/processes that support R&D objectives and enhance the organization’s performance.
  • Encourage and enforce safe, compliant behavior through periodic communications and the performance management process.
  • Review and respond to reports from supervisory, EHSS staff and auditors.
  • Perform work area inspections and observations of their operations
  • Maintain area procedures and training required to ensure legal compliance and conformance to management system.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in Semiconductor industry; at least 10 years in R&D preferred
  • Managed 2 or more unit process areas during tenure
  • Managed R&D budget
  • Familiarity and network with key equipment and materials vendors
  • Managed a group of 100 or more engineers
  • Established experience in hiring skilled individuals, setting strategy for large groups, proven track record of technology execution, and understanding of R&D to manufacturing transfer
  • Master’s Degree in Materials Science or Electrical/Chemical/Mechanical Engineering or related fields in similar disciplines; Ph.D preferred
