Business Intelligence/Data Engineer

As a Business Intelligence (BI) / Data Engineer in Engineering Operations group at Micron Technology Inc., you will be involved in establishing and monitoring key metrics & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for various functions within Engineering Operations. You will also be responsible for the maintenance, and overall management of supporting actionable data, as well as online reporting environments. You will work with BI leads / partners to define high level process effectiveness and efficiency metrics.


The ideal candidate will have experience in end to end BI software development & deployment life cycle. Creates, reviews and reports status of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified objectives. The role requires the candidate to design and deliver dashboards, balance scorecards, analytical models & reports to assist stakeholders drive towards department and company strategic goals. The candidate is also expected to help in identifying trends, anomalies, or other points of interest that require further investigation relative to process gaps and redundancies. The ideal candidate needs to have aptitude to develop business and technical acumen. Candidate with semiconductor business domain knowledge would be preferred.


Key expectations for this role:


  • In this role, the BI/Data Engineer will focus on understanding of business processes, key metrics to manage these processes, and the data behind those metrics that drive the business forward
  • The candidate is also expected to play a key role in establishing and monitoring metrics & Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) critical to measuring system level processes and measurement of effective initiative execution
  • Generate summary and specified dashboard accounts which represent operational data in brief and intelligible format, suitable for the target audience, which includes stakeholders, management leadership, department managers and directors
  • Help BI lead in conducting analysis of findings and offer action-driven recommendations and insights to leaders and managers based on results
  • Awareness of industry benchmarks & trends and share with business partners & leadership. Carry out quality assessment of data, data reports and the accompanying decisions
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, fast-changing environment that requires a high degree of multitasking with minimal supervision 


Responsibilities and Tasks:


  • Accountable for creating and maintaining information requirements repository, including all associated metadata for metric catalog, relational models, star schema etc
  • Understand the business well enough to be a driving force in how information solutions are developed, implemented, and delivered
  • Deliver relevant and actionable insights through reports, dashboards, and documents to fulfill business needs
  • Developing a comprehensive understanding of operational processes and business strategies
  • Support defining and developing KPI’s with business partners to measure customer value and operational effectiveness, aligned with a balanced scorecard approach
  • Understand how to elicit requirements from the business to develop and deliver the BI dashboard strategy, including strategic, tactical, and operational dashboards and support of performance management methodologies
  • Establish a feedback and continuous improvement process to ensure data models drive the business results
  • Coordinating with the Information Technology (IT) department as needed
  • Deliver Reporting and Analytic solutions using Microsoft SQL Server Business Intelligence tools, SAP Hana/Business Objects, Tableau etc
  • Provide architectural, functional and process guidance on system capabilities and solution approaches
  • Be proficient in all aspects of BI and Information Management processes & methodologies such as:
    • BI delivery mechanisms & BI tools 
    • Dimensional data modeling principles (star and snowflake schemas, de-normalized data structures, slowly changing dimensions, etc) necessary for implementing efficient BI solutions
    • Physical data architecture options such as enterprise data warehouse, data federation, hub & spoke architectures, independent data marts  
    • Data integration tools and techniques for ETL (Extract Transform Load)


Qualifications and Experience:


  • Minimum 5 years’ of experience in business analysis with emphasis on business intelligence, data warehousing, and advanced analytics projects
  • Strong experience in end to end software development life cycle including data extract, transform and load (ETL) development, visualization, testing and deployment
  • Development experience with one or more data visualization/reporting tools (Tableau, Qlik, Business Objects, Hana Analytics, Microsoft Reporting Services, Hana Analytics
  • Experience in Dashboard and Scorecard creation
  • Well versed T-SQL and with BI tools like Microsoft BI tool stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS), Tableau etc
  • General purpose programming languages is desired (Python, JavaScript, C++, Windows PowerShell, Visual Basic) and/or web development languages
  • Strong database knowledge, database administration skills, and experience with the Enterprise Data Warehouse
  • Knowledge of project planning tools such as Microsoft Project
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving skills
  • Good communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Experience working in global, cross-functional teams
  • Excellent attention to detail & follow-through skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to consistently achieve desired results.



A BS Degree Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related fields.
